“Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Old School” is a novel by Jeff Kinney about the many setbacks of Greg Heffley who is in middle school. He comes across a lot of issues in the book one is his grandpa moving in also attempting to live without technology while he was at the hardscrabble farm for a field trip. In the beginning of the book Susan, his mother, feels like the family is spending too much time or is “obsessed” with technology. She wants her family to spend more time with each other instead. At the same time, Greg finds out his grandfather is moving in and doesn’t know how long. Him and his father, Frank, aren’t looking forward to that, however, Susan thinks having three generations in the same house is a wonderful idea.
Greg’s mom decides to petition
I selected the book The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth by Alexandra Robbins because I was interested to read about an adult author’s perception of a modern American high school experience. I also chose the book because the reviews mentioned that it related to a TV series I enjoyed, Freaks and Geeks. As I read through the book, I found that it centered around the theory that if a student is excluded or dismissed in high school for having different traits than what other students considered normal, those same traits that made them different will allow them to succeed in an adult life after high school. As soon as I got about a quarter of the way into the book I was not as enthusiastic as I was at first glance. I did agree that these traits could benefit someone, but they don’t define what you have the potential to be when you’re an adult. This high school cliché, despite the seven heartwarming storylines, is inaccurate in describing what the future holds for high school students because our future is unpredictable, and a book with a little statistic and seven high school experiences can’t solidify someone’s adulthood. I also noticed that there were no counterarguments present in the book, leading me to assume that Robbins may not have heavily researched both sides of her ‘quirk’ argument. Although I had differing opinions than the author, the seven characters, their storylines, and the promise of a young James Franco continued to perk my interest and
I read the book A Child called “It”. I loved this book it really spoke to me in a manner of taking my family life for granted and taking everything I have for the best because in all reality it could be worse. This book takes place in Dale City, California during the 1970’s.
A Child Called "It" by Dave Pelzer is an interesting but awfully truthful story of growing up in an abusive childhood. This story is about the author life as a child. He gives first hand experiences of how he felt growing up. Dave was the outsider in his family and was the main victim of his parent’s abuse. This book will have you on the edge of your seat in suspense as you wait and hope for the end of a little boys struggle to live. This book does a wonderful job giving the first hand experiences of what it is truly like to be an abused child. Not all of the book is negative and the story can be viewed as an inspiring journey of how strong one child can be and what he will do to survive.
Schools lacking social utilities that are needed to promote the academic status of its students is an issue. Whether these benefits should be kept opened or closed is widely debated in most societies. The condition of such schools is an important issue because it determines the future of its students academically. Some issues facing schools include social, public and economic issues; this essay will consider arguments concerning the social, public and economical causes of this problem through the use of Jonathan Kozol 's "FREMONT HIGH SCHOOL", which was written to expose the poor conditions in Fremont high school and seek in the improvement of the school system.
In the short essay, Lies My Children’s Books Taught Me, it primarily focuses on The Pleasant Company and the ways they advertise, market, and sell their American girl merchandise. Lies My Children 's Books Taught Me, is written by Daniel Hade, who is a professor of language and literacy at Penn State College. In Eric Schlosser’s essay, Kid Kustomers, he explains the injustice of marketing, and the idea of “cradle to grave” advertizing. This idea of advertizing is basically to get a kid so attached or devoted to a brand/toy that they don 't just buy it for themselves but for their kids in the future. Kid Kustomers helps us to better understand the book Lies My Children’s Books
"Character is what you are in the dark." -Dwight Lyman Moody means that a person's true nature and real behaviors show in every day life and how they react to stuff when no one is watching. How people act when everyone is looking isn't always who they are really are. I have a read a book, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" that gives a good example of the meaning of this quotation. One of the characters shows what type of a person he is when he lets another person take the blame for something he did because he knew no one would ever know he really did it.
'The Landlady' is a short story about a young lad called Billy travelling to Bath on a business trip. He arrives in Bath in the evening and looks for accommodation. Bath was an unfamiliar place to Billy so he was unsure of the area. Billy was guided by a porter who recommended the 'Bell and Dragon' because it was close by, but Billy never went. Although the landlady offered cheap prices and cosy surroundings, she changes her attitude towards Billy as the story unfolds. He then realises that this landlady doesn't appear to be all that she seems to be. He begins to become concerned during his stay but never manages to uncover the landlady's secret before she murders the young lad.
All humans throughout life are faced with the challenge of growing up. Reading Eleven by Sandra Cisneros shows the struggles of an eleven-year-old girl trying to act her age and not any younger. When coming upon an another year of life it can feel exactly like last. This is because no one ever gets rid of the one, two, three, four and five-year-old self that they once represented. Age is simply a number to tell people when they ask. Instead, the obstacles and experiences during those years truly shape a person.
In the book Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul, written by Jeff Kinney, Greg is being dragged through the country in an uncomfortable car for a road trip. In this fiction book, Greg is on a long road trip because his mom looked through a summer fun magazine and saw things to do in it and she chose the road trip option. Of course, Greg and the rest of the family was not thrilled by this idea. The three topics addressed in this book are the protagonist, conflict, and characterization.

An issue going around for many years lately has been the abuse of power. It is not always abusing power; It is abusing rights as well. In William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, the abuse of power and rights is represented by only a few characters and is portrayed many times. Ralph and Jack, the two main characters, both abused their power by controlling the actions of the groups. Golding illustrates that having too much power can lead someone or something to making the wrong choices or making the choices that benefit only themselves. Jack and Ralph were put with the task of being in charge of the two groups and to control everyone 's beliefs and ideas about survival. Throughout the paper, the idea of abusing power will be shown by how politicians have abused and taken advantage of their rights, how bullies use their strength to take charge of other people, and also by the idea of dictatorship.
Lord of the Flies, William Golding’s famous novel, reveals the influence that personal advantage can convey in human decisions. The novel describes the diversity in the fundamentals and corruption of power, exemplifying the lure of personal advantage in contrast to a moral sense. When first on the island, the boys held a common view of order and leadership, in which they gravitated to the evidence of classical social order they found in Ralph. As time progressed the group of boys stranded on the island experienced a change in mindset and they rebelled against the classic expectations of society, as the lack of adults on the island led the boys to decide what actions needed to be taken. Jack corrupted Ralph’s authority using the lure of personal advantage and reciprocity, and the conflict between Jack’s goals, driven by personal gain, and Ralph 's goals, driven by a moral sense, caused the boys to act against their morals and thrust Jack into power.
In the writing Fremont High School by Jonathan Kozol he discusses the reality of urban schools and how they are unable to obtain the proper education. At Fremont High School children are not always able to eat during their lunch period, the proper education needed for college is not obtained, the school reflects institutional discrimination, and the building is overcrowded limiting course offerings for children.
