Dietetic Intern Position at South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control

I am very interested in pursing a dietetic intern position at South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC). I am confident that this internship will provide me a wide variety of practical hands-on training in all aspects of the dietetic field, which is necessary to successfully reach my career goals as a Registered Dietitian (RD).
Currently, I have been working as a community nutritionist for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children for over a year and half. My job responsibilities at the office include determination of eligibility of clients, assessment of nutritional health risks, and presentation of nutrition…show more content… I am very interested to work with and improve the community health early in life with “upstream” intervention, which in the end will lead to a healthier community and society.
SCDHEC Dietetic Internship is one of the few programs that emphasizes Public Health and Community Nutrition as well as Medical Nutrition Therapy. I believe that your program will provide with the opportunity to gain additional skills and experiences in the area of dietetics which I have been the most passionate.
My short-term goals are to enhance my knowledge of medical nutrition therapy, to gain experiences in all aspects of the dietetic field especially in clinical nutrition setting, and to become an RD. My long-term career goals are to become Certified Diabetes Educator, to engage and serve in community nutrition, and to promote wellness and preventive health care for socio-economically and culturally fragile populations. The U.S. population has become increasingly diverse in ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. Therefore, I believe that providing patient-centered education with respect on the differences of cultural, religious, and dietary practices are the keys to becoming a successful educator in nutrition counseling and education.
While working as a full-time employee for WIC, I also keep a part-time job as a server in food service settings and am actively involved in
