Curriculum is an essential tool in the implementation of a quality education. With its proper implementation, an excellent result in the educational system will be achieved. The educational system varies from one country to another in the whole world. For instance, most European countries are following the Bologna Accord while India appreciated very much the implementation of the Washington accord in their engineering programs. At present, the Philippines is facing certain adjustments if not changes in the educational system due to the implementation of the new set-up, the K-12. Developments and revisions on the materials needed in the teaching-learning situation as well as realignment on the programs offered were made.
Bologna and Washington Accord are similar with each other in the sense that both focuses on the context to the attainment of quality education. Adapting the definitions of the two processes, the Bologna Accord is an outcome of an agreement approved by the educational ministers of twenty-nine 29 countries in Europe with its founding objective that is to create quality standard of education specifically in the higher education such that all the members who signed the agreement will offer degrees which are compatible with each other while the Washington accord is an agreement among the international countries who

The Bologna Accord offers a shorter program time frame where only major subjects are programmed in the course study while in the Philippine setting, the program time frame is longer for a year which includes the GE courses. The implementation of the K to 12 is only an inch towards the improvement of the educational system in the Philippines. Series of assessments were already implemented in many institutions offering degree courses throughout the country but still many things need to be
Curriculums are the roadmaps for schools which provide purpose and direction for administrators, educators, parents, and students. Curriculum typically refers to, “the knowledge and skills students are expected to learn, which includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are expected to meet; the units and lessons that teachers teach; the assignments and projects given to students; the books, materials, videos, presentations, and readings used in a course; and the tests, assessments, and other methods used to evaluate student learning.” (Curriculum, 2015, para. 1) Curriculums may come in many shapes and forms, whether they’re purchased as a package at the school or district level or they’re created or refined by educators and
Harry Wong defines curriculum as “the course of study and experiences that states what the students are to learn.” (Wong, 2009, p.232). Curriculum is the driving force of the content to be taught and the methods to be used. The most effective curriculum is designed by a committee made up of teachers, administrators, and curriculum specialists. This committee is tasked with unpacking standards as they are reviewed and integrated into the committee’s design. It also strives to propose curricular and instructional strategies that best convey the required content for each course of study.
All that we do, and every single structure that we have, must be allied to livelihood of the effort of teachers and staff, directors, and principles, and those who work at the Department of Education in the distribution of education. It should be about instruction and instruction only. Student learning and accomplishment’s are the whole reason for our
Common Core, a set of standards that are built for student from kindergarten through 12th grade in English language arts/literacy and mathematics. Throughout the country, about 43 states have implemented CC standards, which are designed to make sure that high school graduates are prepare to enter colleges and onto the workforce. Common Core is not a curriculum. It is guidelines for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level in math and English language arts. However, The CC standards currently only have skills associated with English/language arts and mathematics, while there are no skills that consisted with other subjects, such as science or social studies. This would means that it’s up to the individual in order to develop their own set of standards and assessments for these topics. This will also cause problems with children, being that “The CC standards will require younger students to learn more at a quicker pace than they ever have before” (Cody, 2013). With the increased in higher level thinking skills, student’s learning will become more rigid. With the CC standards only limited to certain subjects, the ones that are most needed for students will not be provided, which means that students will have less ways to be able express their creativity, learn how to think outside the box, or finding new ways to learn and understand.
Curriculum was developed the late 80s out of an aim to make learning more balanced and
Developing an innovative curriculum each school calendar year is very imperative when producing an effective learning environment for students and faculty members. The term “curriculum” is known as the academic content that is taught in schools. School leaders and teachers may define curriculum as courses offered by the school, but is rarely used in such a general sense in school. When developing the curriculum, one must attain to the organized preparation of the lesson that is going to be taught in that given school year. Being an Christian educator and leader, it is imperative to show the Christian philosophy and worldview on how the plan impacts the belief and opinions about curriculum development, express my personal belief about the truth of society,
Education is the learning and development which results from this process of teaching or training. It is the academic discipline dealing with teaching and learning methods in the schools. Learning starts at home and the parents are their first teachers to their kids. When they are about 4 to 6 years of age, parents are starting to bring their children at school where they are able to learn not only the basic skills such as reading and writing but also to develop simple logic and abstract ideas like numbers, shapes, colors, time and many more. Yet, learning first how to write is by far the most important lesson of all and is the priority of all those people who are teaching childhood education.
The Department of Education points to K to 12 Enhanced Basic Education program to address one of the main weaknesses of the Philippine educational system—the congested curriculum. Students are hardpressed to learn in 10 years a curriculum that is actually designed for 12 years in other countries. Hence, Filipino students are not able to achieve comprehension and mastery, particularly of core subjects. With K to 12, students will develop competencies and higher order thinking skills through
In this educational observation I went back to Orange Township in the County of Essex, New Jersey. In order to complete this observation I was able to visit the very first elementary school that I am attending when I arrived in the United States of America. From attending this observation I was able to view the majority of changes that has been implemented in the last few years. One of those main change is the movement from their previous model to the SIOP model and then the usage of the common core standards in the district.
In the past, curriculums ranged everywhere from children need to be taught everything to children learn totally on their own. There are many different theories out there about the best ways to teach. With the advancements of technology, scientists can now explore how the brain actually learns, grows, and responds. This new information is changing the approach to teaching in many schools around the world.
The implementation of the plans had been inspired by the education system that is taught in the world’s most successful schools. This includes countries such as; Hong Kong, Singapore, Finland and the UK. According to the Department for Education (2013) the main aim of the new National Curriculum is to raise standards and to produce productive, creative and well educated students. As a result of this, schools had to reform towards the demanding curriculum which has also had direct impact upon my practice this year.
The basic aim of Education is to produce good and able teachers who could polish the abilities of their
This policy argues that the academic calendar in the Philippines should be reverted back to June - March calendar. Implementation of this policy will ensure the independence and will give way towards good quality in the academic standards of the country in relation to the needs of the people. The people affected in this policy are the administrators, professors, teachers, staff, students, parents, and prospective foreign academic investors.
Department of Education had implemented a new curriculum called K-12 education system which prolonged the educational program as it covers 1 year for attending the kindergarten, 6 years for elementary, 4 years for junior high school and additional 2 years for senior high school and with this, the students will be given an opportunity to learn more advanced subjects without quickening their learning process and so to have a better quality of education. It is sure to happen that there are numerous implications in implementing the K-12 curriculum which brought
The meaning of the term’ curriculum’ is difficult to define. For school, Pratt (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) argues that curriculum can be ‘an organized set of formal educational and training intentions’. For students, Marsh and Wills (in Brady and Kennedy, 2014, p. 3) maintain that curriculum is ‘an interrelated set of plans and experiences that a student undertakes under the guidance of the school’, while for teachers, the challenge is to develop curricula that will cater for the needs of all students (Ah Sam & Ackland, 2005). There are various meanings attached to the term’ curriculum’. My personal definition for school curriculum is that schools develop programs of different study areas basing on the content of the national curriculum document; teachers plan their teaching basing on the programs; eventually, students experience the curriculum by engaging in diverse teaching activities. In this essay, I will be discussing The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in relation to the strategic plan and teaching philosophy of Hampton Park East Kindergarten.
