Difference Between Data and Information

Data is a group of information that are used for various purposes like analysis, evaluations and to arrive at certain results or conclusions. Data reporting is a process where data is extracted form a source or many sources and then converted into a format that can be used for a purpose.

We human beings have been gathering data since the dawn of mankind, whether it was in the form of pictures drawn on stones or in the form some text typed and saved on your computer.

Information is made from Data that is numerical which is changed and used to make it seem sense. For an example train timetable, the number of trains and how much it weights.

Dataset is a collection of information or data. More often dataset refer to the corresponding to single table of database in which every row represents a given member of dataset and every column corresponds to a specific variable. List values of the datasets for each variable is a member of data present in the datasets and each of its value is called as datum. Datasets may contain data for one or more than one members that is interrelated to the number of rows in the table. Datasets can contain more than one table that is related to one database in the database system.

Data is defined as useful raw material which is intended to be useful for both the originator and for the intended receiver. Data consists largely of facts and figures ideal for communicating the intended meaning. This data can be interpreted and can be categorised as follows;

- Information: is a knowledge which can be transferred or received concerning a particular fact or situation. And is a sequence of symbols that can be explained as a message. Information can be recorded as signs, or transmitted as signals.

Information in this day and age is power. Because if you look at information all it is a collection of knowledge stored within a database for people to look at. This article goes over information and how it is used in my company, how we use our information and the safeguards we use from the employee as an individual and as a company to protect our clients

Data is the equal to a human being ,in key respects, because he shares similar qualities with humans. In order to be human or have human qualities, a being must have feelings, which Data does. In the text, Data expresses feelings

Information is data that has been processed so that it has meaning and value to a recipient,

Data comprises of factual information. Data are the facts from which information is derived. Data is not necessarily informative on its own but needs to be structured, interpreted, analysed and contextualised. Once data undergoes this process, it transforms in to information. Information should be accessible and understood by the reader without needing to be interpreted or manipulated in any way.

Information is data which is accurate and timely specific and organized for a purpose presented within a context that gives it meaning and relevance. Information can lead to an increase in understanding and decrease in uncertainty.

“Data is plural of datum, which is the dates, numbers, ages, symbols, letters, and words that represent basic facts and observations about people, processes, measurements, and conditions.” To be useful, data must be accurate.

Information management (IM) is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences; is also particularly critical to businesses that work in conjunction with other businesses, so the two must share information with, or transfer information to, each other. In addition, businesses with more than one department or unit can use the MIS to compile information in one central location, thereby preventing information loss.

3. Data – is the heart of the software. Software cannot function without it. Data can be qualitative and quantitative. Every data is an information.
