In chapter 5, Reforming America’s Schools, I learned many things that affect me as an educator. An important fact that interests me was that there are four goals that schools should follow. The first one is academic, including a broad array of knowledge and intellectual skills. The second one is vocational, aimed at readiness for the world of work and economic responsibilities. The third one is social and civic, including skills and behavior for participating in a complex democratic society. The fourth one is personal, including the development of individual talent and self-expression. This will affect me as an educator so that I can follow and do my best to complete these goals. Now I am aware of what should be done in a classroom.

There are two types of school in this world and that is the schools that are between individuality and conformity. There are a lot of issues that school focus on that aren’t really necessary. School is very important to me. I believe everyone has a right to gain an education. Of course the best place to do so is in school. At the present time it seems America’s youth has been placed into a category where they are no longer seen as a bright future that our nation as was considered in the past.Since the past few years American students scores and been falling and there is no clear reason why. Benjamin Barber’s “America Skips School” and E.D. Hirsch’s “Why America’s Universities Are Better than Its Schools” are both articles that address the issue of American students falling behind in scholastic accomplishment. Both authors agree that American schools need reform.

The article “Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants" by Marc Presky, appears in the book On the Horizon. The article asserts that due to the the anacrusis of the digital age, this generation has changed dramatically, thus, it is no longer possible to reach them through obsolete teaching methods, as it comes close to teaching them in a foreign language. In order to solve this issue, Presky suggests that we need to update our methodology in order to fit today’s needs better.

Schools can provide the childs with the education that helps them to better understand about the culture, society and behaviour. Indirectly, the schools helps the family institutions in socialize the child behavior and emotions in preparing for living in the wider society. It is not easy to educate person, so the teacher also have to know how to handle their emotions during the learning process so that the child will not be affected. The teacher must be a good role model and show the good attitude to the child so they can emulating that attitude in their daily life. The child also can learn about the society norm’s and value which do not be taught at home in the school.

For thirteen years, assuming students enter the school system during kindergarten, students are conditioned to adhere to certain rituals and practices to prepare them for a future in college and career. Students are required to spend roughly nine months in classrooms, seven hours a day, exercising their minds and filling their brains with a new supply of information. Additionally, countless hours of standardized testing are spent analyzing students’ ability to retain and apply their knowledge. According to school systems, by the time a student leaves high school he or she should be adequately prepared to face the next stage in his or her life.

The education habits of students are rooted in them from the earliest days of their educational careers. The different influences on students, whether it be inside educational institutions, or outside is huge. The teacher of a classroom is the first and most pertinent influence in a student's educational career. Teachers provide students with the basic skills they would need to survive not only in the academic world, but also the world beyond. The relationship between teachers and their students is the key element in creating an educational atmosphere that is both pleasant and effective.

Any educational institution is an agency to provide knowledge and wisdom to children. And it is also geared towards the achievement of aims and objectives. The quality of education should be value based and it should give experiences which will shape and modify the behaviour of pupil. Every teacher has a greater responsibility in planning proper activities which will enable children to take active part in different situations which the teacher creates in the class and outside the class room.

Education of young people is important in many countries, and I got an experience of schooling in two particular countries. The school is an institution designed to provide learning materials to those who want to learn something new in their life, supervised by the teacher. However, every school around the globe have their own strategy of giving education, and every countries school are different.
