Question 6- How would you distinguish Pentecostals and Charismatics theologically?
The Pentecostalism and the Charismatic movement are similar to some extent although the Pentecostal movement developed earlier and moved away from the mainstream church. In contrast, those in the Charismatic movement, at least in the formative years of the movement, remained in their respective denominations.
Although Pentecostals and Charismatics have similarities and do agree on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues, they are not the same and can be distinguished theologically. One distinctive mark between the Pentecostals and Charismatics is their perspectives on Spirit- baptism. This means that in biblical theology we wrestle with the text to find out the authors intention and listen to them in their own terms. On the other hand in systematic theology we also dialogue with them to come up with a sound and logical conclusion. The nature of the Pentecostal gift is therefore a question of biblical theology because this is a question that Luke tackle sand answers adequately. On the contrary the question concerning evidential tongues is a question of systematic theology because none of the New Testament biblical authors addresses this issue. None of them addresses the issue of tongues as the initial of evidence of Spirit-baptism.
