Writing properly can be very challenging for a new student embarking on being a scholarly, professional writer. Before starting assignments, it is important to read very broadly about the main topics of the assignment, and also read the specific chapters listed in the assignment, because they will guide a student’s thoughts in developing a paper.
After writing a paper, Grammarly and SafeAssign, located on the Walden website, help edit a student’s work. Grammarly looks at grammatical errors, such as punctuation and spelling, while SafeAssign looks for text that might be plagiarized. It was helpful for me to identify some of the mistakes made while writing my paper, and I will certainly use Grammarly more often during my writing process. …show more content…

As explained in the SafeAssign guide, highlighted areas compare the article with other articles for similarities. According to the assignment that was to paraphrase Patricia O’Conner’s post, the final report from SafeAssign did not show any plagiarization. I believe using SafeAssign will help me protect against plagiarism whenever a reference is attached to a paper.
In order for me to avoid plagiarism, I start by writing the paper with what I know about the topic without the influence of other writers. Whenever an area needs to be emphasized or supported, I search for an article to support the facts. I then read the content of the material to understand the writer’s message, then I write it in my own words, making sure what I write is properly cited to give credit to the author. Other times, I use direct quotation and properly cite the reference in my text to avoid any plagiarism. I also make sure the reference appears on the Reference
