The major similarities in assumptions across the models are, people can change, negative thoughts, behaviours, and emotions cause problems and therapists assist in changing maladaptive behaviours by changing negative cognitions. This suggests that people are resilient and by examining, then applying techniques to reverse negative cognitions, change can occur.

The major differences between the models are suggested in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). ACT suggests clients must open up, be present and familiar with self-actualization for therapy to work. The differences propose that only clients who are willing and ready to change will be successful in therapy. Furthermore, it advances that clients who are not tuned into their potential or want to fulfill their talents are unable to succeed.

Therefore, those who are unable to meet the above-mentioned standards may not experience positive clinical outcomes.

Based on the models presented, I would choose a therapist who practices a form of cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) because there are many techniques within CBT that can be employed to change negative cognitions while applying strategies such as mindfulness and emotion
