Differences Between Jefferson And The Baptists

Thomas Jefferson personally believed that religious freedom was a God-given right. The Baptists wanted to worship freely like the Anglicans and not be thrown in jail because of it. Although Jefferson’s religious views were not as similar as those of the Baptists, he did believe that they too deserve the right to practice their faith. The Baptists’ proposal was the cause of their alliance with Jefferson, which resulted with the first amendment in our Bill of Rights. This bill established the separation of church and states. People at this point were faced with religious freedom and free to choose to worship as they wanted. They no longer had one choice or had to stick with the Calvinistic ideas that the damnation of their souls was already decided,
