To start, I want to discuss who settled these colonies. First we will look at the Chesapeake Colonies, the English were the first to settle here in 1607 calling the land of present-day Virginia, Jamestown. The first settlers had plenty of hardship to face in the first years. Things like disease, deprivation of food for winter, management was not there, and they encountered many conflicts with the Indian tribes. Now we look at who settled in those of the New England colonies. Separatists and Puritans, derived from the Catholics, settled these lands and also had the hardships of winter.
