I did an experiment call the effects of monster and redbull on an m and m. this was a fun experiment that i really enjoyed. Me and carson combined monster and redbull to see if that would dissolve an m and m faster than water. Our hypothesis is that the monster and red bull will dissolve the m and m faster than the water. For the first test it took 3 minutes and 38 seconds. The second test took 3 minutes and 29 seconds and the third test took 3 minutes and 22 seconds ANd the water took a lot longer than we thought an wopping 8 minutes and 10 seconds. The vials were placed in the water and the oxygen levels were read every 5 minutes until 30 minutes was reached. As the oxygen levels were collected they were put into a table that had all three tubes labeled at each 5-minute increment. After 30 minutes the experiment was completed and the clean up process could begin.
Hypothesis: Altoid and Smarties will dissolve the fastest and Sweet tarts will dissolve the slowest.
For our hypothesis we thought that the seltzer would dissolve the alka seltzer the fastest, because the seltzer was already carbonated. After doing the experiment we found out that the seltzer was the 2nd fastest at dissolving the tablet, and the water dissolved the alka seltzer 6 seconds faster than the seltzer. This being said our hypothesis turned out to be wrong because the water (fastest to dissolve the alka seltzer) has fewer chemicals, so it dissolved the tablet faster. We thought the less chemicals the slower the alka seltzer would dissolve. Although after conducting the experiment we found through data that the more chemicals in the liquid, the slower the tablet would dissolve in them.

One of our flaws was that the temperature of the water was not exactly the same when we did the different trials. The temperatures were slightly off from our recorded value during the experiments. The change in temperature would affect the time it took for the Alka-Seltzer tablet to dissolve in the water. If there was a direct relationship between water temperature and dissolve time, we would not be able to see it because the temperatures are off and the dissolve times are not associated with the correct temperature. Another flaw is that we did not use the same amount of water throughout the experiment. We used a beaker to measure the water, which did not result in accurate measurements. The difference in amount of water could result in a difference in reaction time. The third flaw in the experiment was that during the reaction of the warm water, the water in the cup overflowed and spilled, bringing some of the Alka-Seltzer tablet with it. There were different amounts of tablet in different areas of the water, which means a different amount of Alka-Seltzer remained inside of the cup in each trial. This difference would mean that data for the warm water would fluctuate and we would not have accurate

On average the Alka Seltzer tablet dissolved faster in hot water in comparison to ice cold water and room temperature water. The beaker with ice cold water caused the Alka Seltzer tablet to dissolve the slowest. The three beakers containing different temperatures of water, all produced carbon dioxide bubbles; however, the beaker containing hot water produced the bubbles more rapidly.
For our lab, we have six beakers of water. Three of the beakers contain high temperature water that range from 46 ℃ to 55 ℃, while the other three beakers contain room temperature water that range from 22 ℃ to 23 ℃. Experimental Method: Polyethylene glycol 3350(PEG) was placed in water in order to measure the amount of time it took for the PEG to dissolve. The amount of both PEG and water were the same for each trial, the only changing factor was the temperature of the water. Timing started the moment PEG was placed into water, and the timer was stopped once PEG was dissolved.
On Thursday August 27, 2015 my group comprised of Elizabeth Cruz, Samantha St. Martin and I initiated experiment. This was constructed of three Alka-Seltzer tablets and three beakers containing different liquids: water, salt water, and vinegar. The drive behind our experiment was to see what factors would make the Alka-Seltzer tablets dissolve faster. My group’s hypothesis was that the strong chemical compounds in vinegar will cause the Alka-Seltzer to dissolve faster and therefore take the shortest amount of time compared to the other mixtures.
Although not sold in its original form at our common grocery stores, we normally see the flavor being used in teas and smoothies. Then there was the mangosteen. It is another purple fruit. It is creamy and citrusy with a hint of peach. Second to last is the Lychee. This is a common Asian fruit that is small and white in the inside and has a grape like texture when eaten. Lastly was the Durian, sadly the worst one of them. It has hard spiky husk that needed to be cracked opened. I was warned about this one but didn’t think it was going to be as bad as it was. It smelled like skunk spray/ sewage. I tried to taste it but didn’t. We immediately threw it away. The smell was horrible. A lady who I spoke to at the store prior to buying the fruit just told me that it was an acquired taste and smell, but I didn’t expect what we experienced. Nonetheless, I enjoyed going through and tasting each fruit. It definitely was an experience and an eye opener to the different types of fruit out there besides your usual bananas, strawberries, and oranges.
