Differences between Lives in Solingen and Phoenix
As I arrived at Phoenix in September of 1999, I was very excited to see this famous city and it's country and to get to know everything about it. But with the time I realized that Phoenix is not more different than my town in Germany, Solingen. It's a not a big city but it is a very beautiful one with many small streets and small houses around them. I had even the impression that the life in Germany was more exciting than in Phoenix. Now I'm living in Phoenix for over one year and I can say now that there are many differences between those two countries which had a big influence at our further lives. I'm talking about differences which you can't notice if you go there for a

the stores or places where you could have go out were pretty far away from our apartment. Mostly I needed a car to go out somewhere. The buses are stationed only on few places and they arrive in very long intervals. So after a time, we realized that we had to buy a car. In contrast to Phoenix, during our time in Solingen, we used the car mostly for longer trips. The whole city was connected with bus lines and they were coming to the bus stations every ten minutes. If we had to go somewhere in the city, we used mostly the buses. We saved our gas money and were there always on time.
While in Phoenix you have problems to find the time to go out with your friends, in Solingen, I was most of the time able to plan something at a short time. Every day after the school, I went to the downtown of Solingen with some friends or alone and we were walking through the streets full of stores and joking around. I did this almost every day in the week. On the weekends there were many places to go out with friends like many clubs and cafe's in Solingen or in the bigger towns next to us like Dusseldorf or Cologne. This cities are famous for their streets to go out there and have a good time. People from all West Germany came over to these streets to have fun. So it was never boring even in a small town like Solingen. I could always do something if I was bored.
A another good example thing that verifies the deference between these unlike cities is having a job. To have a job in the
Alexie Sherman uses a narrative point of view in his short story "This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” . Clearly identifiable as the narrator, Sherman uses third-person limited narration to tell the story. Although Sherman can observe all his characters, the knowledge that he shares with readers is limited or confined to the inner thoughts, opinions, and perspectives of the main character Victor. Through this technique, the reader learns about the life and personality of Victor through his own words; his past and current interactions and reminiscences; and, his observations of others.
Arizona brings to mind Spanish style villas scattered below the desert mountains, towering saguaro cacti planted along the quieter roads, suburbs and large cities with many diverse individuals inhabiting them, and Christmas lights and décor strung across a snowless green and rocky ground. For nearly 5 years, I have lived in the state of Arizona. Within the first minute of stepping out of the airport, the climate and weather was extremely notable. Amid Monsoon season, it felt nearly equivalent to putting my face directly in an oven that had been active for more than enough hours. But excluding the late spring and summer months, the fall and winter season are considerably temperate and pleasant. The fall is ideal for long strolls with family, sporting nothing warmer more than a flannel shirt, at most. The winter does become cold throughout night, but there is
Sherman J. Alexie, is a short story written in the first person focusing on two Native American Men who grew up together on a Reservation for Native Americans but have been estranged from each other since they were teenagers. Victor who is the narrator of this story is a young man who lost faith in his culture and its traditions, while Thomas our second main character is a deeply rooted traditional storyteller. In the beginning of the story Victor, our Native American narrator learns the death of his father. Jobless and penniless, his only wish is to go to Phoenix, Arizona and bring back his father’s ashes and belongings to the reservation in Spokane. The death of Victor’s father leads him and Thomas to a journey filled with childhood
Thomas on the other hand was ok with knowing Victor would not talk to him again after their trip to Phoenix. “I know you ain’t going to treat me any better than you did before. I know your friends would give you too much shit about it.” (Alexie P. 518) He asked of Victor one favor only, he said, “Just one time when I’m telling a story somewhere, why don’t you stop and listen? Just once!” (Alexie P. 519)
These two cities differed greatly, varying in aspects such as A brief overview of the differences between our two cities was the population, their city only contained nine thousand residents versis our thirty-two thousand. They had more open land with nicer houses - we usually stereotyped them as the “country rich city.” Their local stores were mostly family owned and therefore fewer of them. The numerous trains that ran parallel to their main road rarely caused traffic jams. You may ask yourself, “Why would anyone want to make a journey out there anyway?”
There are two cities that I found to have apparent differences from one another. Houston and Hong Kong come with various differences, and who could have known that Houston and Hong Kong have so many different features? Houston and Hong Kong are vastly different from each other when it comes to the three main features - education, transportation, and domestic life.
While observing my two cities that are drastically different which are Philadelphia Pennsylvania and Colfax California. If the thought of these two cities are no there is a completely different surroundings. Colfax California is a small community in the Sierra Nevada's with a population of 2019 people. Philadelphia is one of the largest cities in the United States with 1.553 million people. People congregate in Philadelphia for it's remarkable history.
“This is What it Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona”: The Road to a New Beginning
The public transportation (trains and busses) had some social wassues. Even though, there were big public transportation network in Chicago, their quality was not as good as New York City or Washington D.C.. There were many people seems that they suffer in poverty.
Once upon a time, there was a famous city in a far away land called the City of Jobs. In the City of Jobs, there were people from all around the world who each had their very own unique careers. There was Mrs. Lin, from China, who owned a shop that sold colorful silks of every color. Mr. Bernard, a baker from France, whom made pastries and cakes, for whoever wanted a delicious treat. And Mrs.Smith, from America, whose music store was filled with an assortment of instruments. But then their was Artie. Arite was new to the City of Jobs, and he couldn't find out what his unique career was supposed to be. “I’ll find a job,” Artie would say courageously, “and then I will live in the City of Jobs.” So Artie went off into the city to find the job that suited him best.
I am truly grateful to experience two regions in the world that have had profound an impact in my life. One out of the countless places that received a positive image is Davenport, Iowa, the place that I was born and grew up in. The second place that I was lucky to visit for a decent amount of time is my second home, Saigon, located in the south of Vietnam. The majority of the U.S population wouldn’t know which place is the best option to have a vacation in, or be able to understand the differences and the similarities between the two, due to the lack of knowledge and experiences. Each of the places shares the similarities in location for entertainment, is socially tolerable, and have the same type of fashion. The differences between the two
I was born in Arizona and moved to Oregon when I was six and since my mom likes to move a lot i've been to a lot of different schools. The classes i like the most or i feel like are my strongest areas are social studies and language arts. I’m not saying that i don't like any of my classes because i enjoy them, it’s just that i feel like i'm stronger in them that i am in math for example. If i was to list off one of my i strengths guess i'd say that i'm creative or at least that i'm good at thinking that i'm creative. My parents accept me to at least get a B’s in all my classes but i'm always shooting for an A. one of the areas that i struggle with like the majority of the students is procrastination but this year i've decided to take care of
For Christmas and my sixteenth birthday present my parents planned a trip for me to go to New York City with my dad. Two days after Christmas me and my dad hopped on the plane and headed for New Jersey and New York City. I was very excited because I had been to New Jersey but I never visited New York City before. I also remember being excited because of that fact that I would actually get to see snow in the winter since it rarely ever snowed in Houston during the winter. Then that next year during my junior year in High School, I had the opportunity to go on a trip to Los Angeles with my drill team. I was very excited to get to go to both of these huge awesome cities in that two year period. Both of these cities were unique in their own way. So what makes a city similar to another city and what makes a city different to another city? The people, the weather, the vibe, the monuments and popular attractions are all some of the components of what makes a city unlike any other city. My two favorite cities besides Houston are New York and Los Angeles. I have visited both and like them both equally for different reasons. While New York and Los Angeles definitely have their similarities, they also have many differences that set them apart from each other.
Way of life differs when people live in different places. No doubt that people lifestyle will be influenced by the society and surrounding environment where they live in. City life and countryside life are obviously very different in several ways, such as population, environment, and utilities.
I have traveled to various states throughout my lifetime. In my traveling, countless differences can be easily seen when comparing Ohio to other places in the United States. I had the experience of traveling to South Carolina over the past weekend. On my visit, my girlfriend showed me around The University of South Carolina campus and I was exposed to many of the differences that I was similarly exposed to on my other travels. This can include differing cultures, attitudes, atmosphere, and transportation; the list goes on and on.
