Have you ever viewed someone differently based on their culture? Or has someone´s culture ever informed you the way one views others and the world? In the following section there are three different aspects that can identify a person on how they see the world and others and they're going to change your perspective.
Truly, i believe that a person´s parents have a direct influence on how they see each other and the world. In the story Two Kinds by Amy Tan on page 8, ¨ My mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America ¨ Since her mother been living longer she knows more about the world so she believes anyone can be anything in the world as long as they try. In another text in the story An Indian Father's Plea by Robert Lake on page 76, ¨ such an inward journey allows one to reflect in privacy on what he has learned and to carry knowledge deeply into the unconscious and the soul ¨ His dad tells his perspective of the world describing and inward journey.

For example in the text An Indian Father’s Plea by robert lake on page 77 it stated, “he is not culturally disadvantaged in but he is culturally different if you ask him how many months there are in one year he will probably tell you 13” so that relates with the theme because his son is culturally different and are different learning so most people see each other's culture as a disadvantaged. In the story By Any Other Name by Santha Rau on page 35 it stated “oh my dears those are to Indian for she suppose you have an English name” the connection that quote has is that an American lady wants to change the Indian girl to a American name but the lady shouldn't have the right to because there names identify who they are and are
The chapter discusses how human development is affected by the nature in which a person is born into. It discusses how worldviews regarding child 's development vary among different regions throughout the continents. The chapter goes into the similarities of cultures as well as the differences of how humans develop across the board in all areas of thought in different regions of the world. The author tries to link human development with cultural aspects of how problem solving occurs as far as cultural influences are concerned. The nature of human development may occur in a pattern with all types of cultures and background.
Well culture is very powerful,it affects our living standards and how we view the world . Our surroundings that we grew up with such as family, is the source on why we adapt beliefs ,languages ,food, aesthetics and ethnicity. In the novel,”Two Kinds” by Amy Tan, shows the conflict between a mother-daughter relationship in which the mother forces her daughter into activities so she can have an American dream. In the short story,”By Any Other Name”by Santha Ramu Rau refutes that two girls name shouldn’t matter and ethnicity shouldn’t be the reason why people should mistreat them. Bharati Mukherjee’s personal essay,”Two ways to belong in America “ is about two sisters
Khademian's book, "Working With Culture", is similar to Selznick's Leadership in Administration, in that both focus on the less technical aspects of public administration (structure and hierarchy) and instead look at problems that arise "between the lines" so to speak - that of people within the organization, and more specific to her work; the idea of culture within an organization. While this is not something that has been unknown, in fact it has been brought up in almost all of the works we have read so far, what is specific to the work we previously read, by Selznick, and Khademian's is an understanding of culture as something that does exist, not by mere chance as Cook and Wilson took it, but as something that should be acknowledged,
How much do people believe parents or others around them influence their viewpoints on the things around them? How much do others influence their culture and traditions? I believe people only sometimes affect another’s viewpoints. For some people, they are similar to their parents, but not always. That’s why I can infer that the people around others can only sometimes influence their viewpoints on certain aspects of life. I enjoy similar things compared to my family, but I also love various things as well. So, before anyone feels like somebody is influencing their viewpoint on life and culture, they need to realize that their views are only sometimes persuaded by other people.
“Culture is sometimes described as a lens through which we view the world, meaning that one’s culture influences their perceptions and interactions in everyday life” (Davis, 2006). Every culture has different beliefs and customs
Everyone sees others in the world in different ways, why? Culture has a significant impact on how individuals view the world and others. The three stories Indian Fathers Plea, Two Kinds, and By Any Other Name, prove culture has the largest impact. Some may argue that experience has a considerable impact, but overall culture is still more prominent.
This poster is from the American allies in World War 2. It displays collecting scrap materials for the war effort. The poster’s intended audience is American children because it would be extremely appealing to them as it displays Captain America who was a very popular super hero. It also displays kids on the poster helping Captain America which will inspire them to help out too. The poster will inspire children to collect as many scrap materials they can for the war effort as drives for metals were crucial back then to help construct weapons for war. The two methods of persuasion that the poster presents are bandwagon and testimonial. It is bandwagon because it inspires children to see them in themselves because they see children helping collect
I can see that in how my parents have had arguments. One of their disagreements was clearly a class of expectations of things that needed to be done as we had family coming. When my father thought my mother should have done something that she had not he became upset with her. It was almost as if they had fought over nothing, something so trivial did not need an argument to sort it out. I can now see that this was a fight that surfaced because of expectations of one another to contribute to an entire job. It was not just about the one task at hand, or the parts of a whole, it was about how t fit into the whole situation like in the symbolic interaction theory. The way that they interacted with each other had a significant meaning. Also, the tasks had a specific meaning to each of them. For my mother, it meant nothing and to my father it meant much more. Families react to each different personality that makes up them. One person can influence the personality of others. I can see this also in how my parents have shaped me. The way that they have always interacted with me has molded me into a very positive person who is also very stubborn and strong willed. It is also easy to see how when my parents addressed the myths about marriage during interviews, they were both very certain of themselves. They knew, from their own experiences, that their opinion mattered. They have been through thirty years worth of trial and
I found the song of Gloc 9, "Okay Ako", very beautiful, relating, and eye-opening. Before listening to the song, as a fan of Gloc 9, I knew already that it may be about something in our society. I proved myself right after listening to it. The song is about people who are somewhat deviant in the society and Gloc 9 is telling how they feel about themselves. Why does Gloc 9 sang the song?
The healing circle is valuable technique used within Aboriginal communities to initiate healing through their own traditional belief systems (Stevenson, 1999). Traditionally, “a sharing of one’s journey is a great teacher, for it acknowledges that the pain, laughter, and love we experience can bring us closer together and helps us to learn from one another’s experiences” (Stevenson, 1999, p.9). Moreover, Aboriginal peoples created the healing circle to help each other learn by personal experiences, and to ensure the community says connected to one another. An organization that uses healing circles to connect individuals is called the Community Holistic Circle Healing. This organization uses healing circles as a response to sexual abuse in
Culture builds up and shapes how people view the world and the people in it. It determines how we judge and view the way others act, look, and even how they think. In the texts “Where worlds collide”, “An Indian Father’s Plea”, and “Two Kinds”, it is shown that a person’s views of others and the world are solely determined by their culture.
People view the world in a variety of different ways due to customs, thoughts, beliefs, and life styles. Each factor contributes to the development of one’s worldview, either formed individually or through a group. Some of these influencing factors include: language, culture, and religion.
Realizing we have more in common than not, when I meet new people, I look at them as individuals. I take into consideration the concrete, the behavioral and the symbolic for they all have their place in a person being who they are. Yes, I wish others could see and gain understanding for other cultures through my eyes. For example, “it is possible to acquire a new culture by becoming disabled, moving to a new country or region, or by a change in our economic status. When we think of culture this broadly we realize we all belong to many cultures at once” (Community Tool Box, 2013).
the things that they see. Every culture has their own individual stereotypes and belief systems. The reason for this is that people place arbitrary meanings on life's occurrences based upon those of the individuals which preceded them. Thought patterns of an individual are all dependent upon the teachings of others.
perspectives. One text that can relate to this is in “An Indian Father’s Plea” quoting, “So I realize
