Everyone has their own philosophy about the way we live our lives, and how we follow a certain path to get to our destination. One’s philosophy may be based on their religious beliefs, what they were taught growing up, or both. I was raised Christian and many of the beliefs I have stems from my Christian roots. I was always told God was the reason a person behaved a certain way or the devil. Now that I am older, and mostly due to my college education, I see the world differently. Before learning about the different theories in psychology, and the beliefs and techniques that come with them, I had applied many to my own life before. I am spiritual and I believe that many people are born with destinies. I believe we are all on a path predetermined for us and that we take many detours along the way. If we take the wrong detour, whether it be days, months, or years, something drastic will happen to get us back on the right path. When we make friends, they either work out, or something awful happens that ends the friendship. Once the air has been cleared, one can realize that a certain person was leading us down the wrong path. The way we live life is largely influenced by the company we keep and our upbringing. I have friends who were born in corrupt neighborhoods to parents who were on drugs and they went down the same trail as them. Psychology is a discipline that involves monitoring mental processes and behaviour scientifically. Psychologists try to delve into the basic functions of a person and animals cerebral activity. This usually involves studying relationships, emotions, personality and many more areas of a person or animals day to day life. Psychology tends to steer towards finding reasons for a person or animals actions in an attempt to resolve them.

For example, if a service user is unsure of how to use a form of contraception, they can seek assistance in a health clinic. A nurse can demonstrate how to use different contraception, so that the service user is able to imitate and learn.
Based on what was learned during lectures there are varieties of different ways an individual can become addicted. Certain personality traits are more likely to abuse drugs such as individuals who are risk takers, have low self-esteem, or stressed. Mental health also plays a big role. Those individuals who suffer from anxiety, depression, antisocial, or personality traits are more likely to become an addict. According to the Intergenerational theory, children who have parents that are addicted to drugs or whose parents have been incarcerated due to drug charges; are more likely to follow in the footsteps of the parents. Although there is not a direct line or an “addictive gene”, the possibility is much higher. Another theory that shows a direct line to drug addiction is the Reinforcement Theory. This theory is based on repeating behaviors that the individual interprets as a “reward”. Once the individual feels that “reward”, they continue to repeat the behavior in order to feel that way again. Eventually the individual will need more and more drugs to achieve that high, which leads to addiction. According to the film, Eugene stated that individuals find variety of different ways to support their habits. One of those ways is through property crime. Social cognitive theory was developed by Albert Bandura (1986, 2012) and other psychologists. Social cognitive theory traditionally focuses more on learning by observation and on the cognitive processes that underlie personalities (Rathus, 2015). Additionally, social cognitive theorists see people influencing their environment as much as it influences them (Rathus, 2015). They also affirm that “variables” within people are to be considered to understand them. These can include knowledge and skills, ways of interpreting experiences, and systems and plans (Bandura, 2012). This theory focuses mainly on variables and observational learning of human behavior. Furthermore, this theory was placed third on the spectrum because of its relevance to both nature, and nurture perspectives.
Psychology is the study of the behavior and mind of all living organisms. Perspectives are made in psychology in order for us to be able to have a better understanding of human behavior. These “theories” help contribute to studying how people think, feel, and behave. Three of the main perspectives include behaviorism, which is the study of people’s behavior, humanistic, which is the study of the potential good in everyone, and cognitive, the study of mental processes.
The four major perspectives of Psychology are: Biological, Learning, Cognitive, and Sociocultural. First, is the biological perspective which relates to bodily events that affect the behavior, feelings, and thoughts. During the biological perspective electrical impulses shoot along the nervous system and hormones flow through the blood stream alerting the internal organs to slow down or speed up. The biological perspective affects the nervous system, hormones, brain chemistry, heredity, and evolutionary influences. A child who has been exposed to abuse may also grow up to abusive which is an example of the biological perspective. Second, is the learning perspective which the environment and experience affect the behavior of humans or animals. The environment either rewards or punish that maintains or discourage behaviors. Behaviors are based on acts and events taking place within the environment. Environmental influences, observations and imitation, beliefs, and values affect the learning perspective. A violent role model can influence a child to behave aggressively is an example of the learning perspective. Third, is the cognitive perspective which is the psychological approach that emphasizes mental process in perception, memory, language, and problem solving. The cognitive perspective shows how thoughts and explanations affect their actions, feelings, and choices. The cognitive approach is one of the strongest forces in psychology. If you are generally stressed, depressed, aggressive, impulsive, antisocial personality, as well as mental health problems. One 's level of education can be a determiner, ff you have poor school performance, does not expect to do well at school or doesn 't care about school, absence, truancy and dropout. If one 's family life is complicated, parents that use drugs or break law, parents that don 't monitor activities, rejected by parents, parents never discipline, divorce, addiction in family, other family issues can all push students towards drugs. What I found to be the biggest component is the environmental factors. If they have easy access to drugs, poverty, friends using drugs, friends that are bad influences, and the world around them can expose them to drugs.
Society doesn’t usually think of drug addicts as “good people” and they end up losing their respect and reputation as they grow up. If these teens and young adults don’t change who they are when they are young, they won’t be able to fix themselves as they grow older which can be a bad influence. Bad habits start as a kid and if you don’t change those habits you won’t be able to when you get older!
There has always been a close association between drugs and crime. Drugs have been seen as a way out of suffering in one’s life and so as long as there is suffering there will always be a market for drugs. The struggle to keep one’s self sane when away from a substance they need can cause them to do crazy and even violent things to others. Things like murdering someone because they did not have proper control of themselves is not something unheard of by any means. These people can been seen as both victims and criminals, as they were not in a sound state of mind when doing these actions, however them doing the actions does not mean they should get off scot-free. The users are only one side of the coin, the other is the drug dealers. The dealers do not have to be selling purely illegal drugs, they may be selling prescription drugs too, but in the pursuit of their own survival in a struggling life, they turn to selling substances to others. By doing so they can even amass a fortune, but this is still a crime, and what people will do to try to get all this potential money can span from robbing to murder. The articles I read from different media support the fact there is indeed a tie with crime and drugs, being that an increase of drugs on the street leads to more crime.
Do people ever think about the consequences about drug abuse? Not many of us do but we all know what it does to us. Drugs are harmful to the brain and the body system itself; they affect the heart in many ways and because of that people become unconscious as to what their actions are. They do not realize how badly they can harm the community around them. Drugs are normally used by those who are not involved in activities such as, religious clubs, sports, etc. The users are normally stressed out with life and at times they just need something to set their minds aside from problems which occur in their everyday life. I chose Gestalt Psychology for my first perspective, it is how people experience objects and perceive things as a whole. Gestalt allows us to look at everyday objects and distinguish them from their surroundings. Without the Gestalt Theory people would see every atom that made up a whole object. As I look at my computer screen, I do not see every little atom, I see the screen as a whole. From this perspective, learning objects as a whole instead of each individual part is beneficial because it allows us to open our minds for new learning experiences. However, there may be things in life that do not provide enough visual clues to determine what it is supposed to be.
