It is sad let alone close to child neglect to allow our 8-year-old son to be forced to walk across the hot Law Enforcement Center asphalt parking lot barefoot with a nickel size wound in Dillan’s left heel. It is very disappointing to allow our son to be the victim of an obviously spiteful reaction to a request to replace the “Croc” sandals that were purchased while on my parenting time and lost on Adam’s parenting time. I purchased two pair of flip flops last night at Wal-Mart for $0.98 each that were similar to the pair Dillan wore home after his Crocs” were consumed by the lake on Adam’s parenting time. It is completely inappropriate to allow Dillan to be injured or to especially allow his new wound open to infection due to a petty footwear
“Tom was not supposed to be killed, he had to be captured, you better hope he doesn't die!” yelled a U.S. police officer. During all the chaos Tom was being lifted into the ambulance, with the paramedics checking for any signs of life. The ambulance takes off speeding to the hospital while blinding onlookers with flashing lights. Tom was rushed to the operating room instantly, the hospital staff worked tirelessly trying to bring him back to life. Unfortunately, the doctor declared that Tom probably died the instant the bullet put an unrepairable hole, the size of a dime, in his heart.
Throughout reading To Kill a Mockingbird, we have witnessed various character traits from Dill Harris. For example, we are aware that Dill is a chronic liar, and his speech is random. These various traits Dill portrays are clearly defined within the second half of the book, when matters in the town become serious, the citizens of Maycomb personalities are revealed. The reader is exposed to Dill’s traits after hearing Miss Rachel’s reaction to the Tom Robinson trial, and while Dill and the Finch children eat cake at Miss Maudie’s house. “‘Don’t talk like that, Dill,’ said Aunt Alexandra.
Dill’s motivation for lying about his father is so he can have a better life. He can also get more attention from the adults, allowing him to stay in Maycomb. Since he is neglected, he lies saying that his father abuses him so he can spend more time with Scout and Jem. Dill adds imagination, color and adventure into the children’s lives. An example of imagination is when Dill makes up the “Boo Radley Game” daring Jem to touch the supposedly haunted house that has been abandoned for a long time.
Later, he begins to unite workers, and eventually dies trying to combat injustice through this worker unity. After this, Tom takes over Casey’s crusade. As Tom begins to truly comprehend Casey’s words and struggle, he explains what he must try to do in his final talk with his mother.
Dill decides to run away from home because his mother and his stepfather neglect him. He reached out to Miss Rachel, Scout and Jem who live in Maycomb County by taking a train there. After Dill stayed awhile in Maycomb County, many men, including a sheriff named Heck Tate comes to the Finch family's home where Dill was staying. They came there because of “death and politics” (pg. 193), which is how Scout, the narrator who is also the main character of the story, described it. Scout was curious as to who had “died”. She tries to go in front of the door from the inside, perhaps to listen in, but Atticus stops her. The men are speaking to Atticus about Tom Robinson, who gets arrested and is imprisoned at the Maycomb jail. Apparently, they thought
Have you ever thought about what the book would be like without Dill? You see, Dill is a type of character that doesn’t mean a great deal to the plot, only as representations of the characters. I have come together that Dill is a character where he represents the themes of the book, however we have characters that already represent these themes. Take for example, Dill does not express or reveals himself as he really is on the inside and he pretends to be someone else. He lies to everyone for attention because he doesn’t get the same love from his family out of Maycomb.
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, gifts are given to Jem, Scout and Dill throughout the book in the disguise of life lessons. During the trial of Tom Robinson, Dill is effected the most by Mr.Gilmer's accusations toward Tom. He “had started crying and couldn’t stop” Jem and Scout took him out of the court and under a tree for him to calm down (225). Dill had gotten upset about the way Mr.Gilmer cross-examined Tom and didn’t like how he was “doin’ him thataway, talking so hateful to him” (226). Dill had grownup playing in the Finch family and had learned that everyone was supposed to be treated fairly no matter what their skin color is. Dill had started crying because he knew that Mr.Gilmer was being so mean to Tom because
Many children run away from home for the same reason as Dill. Dill was neglected by both his parents everyday. He originally explained to Jem and Scout how he was chained up in the basement by his father but escaped from the chains, took thirteen dollars from his moms purse and ran away to Maycomb (158-159). Jem and Scout could easily tell that Dill was lying because thirteen dollars was an absurd amount of money in that day and they could be able to tell he was lying due to the fact that Dill just likes to make things up. Scout found out the real reason why Dill ran away when he confessed to her one night. “They just wasn't interested in me.” (161). Dill later said that “they stayed gone all the time, and when they were home, even, they'd get off in a room by themselves.” (161). Dill loves being in Maycomb with Jem and Scout anyways. He loves the games they play and the times they have there, so I'm sure that sort of urged him to go see them also (163). Dill doesn't run away because his parents don't want him around them.
is really hard on the kids because a lot of people in the town don't
"In the little world in which children have their existence... there is nothing so finely perceived and so finely felt, as injustice". To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, follows a young girl's childhood, including an abused recluse and an unfair trial. The main characters, Scout, her brother Jem, and their friend Dill, face issues they don't understand. Scout and Jem are used to Maycomb's prejudice, however, while Dill is not. Dill's childlike innocence allows him to see through Maycomb's prejudice, showing that justice is sought by people who can't stomach hatred.

The emotions of the trial are running high for everyone. Jem, Scout and Dill are sitting in the balcony with the black people of the town. When it was the prosecutors turn Mr.Gilmer started to drill Tom hard. Dill’s emotions took over and he broke into emotional tears knowing that something was wrong. For the first time Scout realizes a change in Dill and tries to comfort him outside. The children are sitting with the blacks who hear Dill’s crys showing that he is full of compassion for the guiltless man.
