Howley: Director of Nursing Interview Karen Stockbridge is the Director of Professional Development at Beth Israel Deaconess (BID) Milton Hospital. Karen, married with five children, works in the town where they are raising a family. She is passionate about nursing and optimistic about its future. Leaders Role, Organization, and Background Role and Primary Responsibilities Karen is the Director of Professional Development at BID-Milton Hospital. The nursing division leaders include a Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and three directors. Within this structure, Karen 's primary responsibility is the development of professional practice. Karen is responsible for central nursing orientation and education, individual unit on-boarding, annual competency, and promoting professional development. Educational Background and Practical Experience Karen is a graduate of University of Massachusetts with Bachelors of Science in Nursing 1991, a graduate of University of Massachusetts with Masters of Science: Acute Care/Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) 2011, and is enrolled at University of Massachusetts Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) anticipated graduation 5/19. After graduating with her CNS degree, Karen had an educator position at a community hospital, then transitioned to an academic hospital, as the clinical educator in the ED.
