There is a different theme for each different story. The theme in the story “Dirk The protector” written by the author Gary paulsen is A Companion can be found in anyone. An example in the story is that the appearance of Dirk was not very pleasant because in the story it said that not only was Dirk missing patches of hair on his skin, but his ears were different sizes , and his nails were worn down from the cement in the alleyway. This exemplifies that a companion can be found in anyone because even though Dirk looked like a raggedy old dog, Gary was still able to Find good traits in him. These include companionship, trust, and loyalty, which are displayed at multiple points in the story. Another example from the text is that when Gary and
Theme is an important part of writing, it allows the author to convey the meaning behind a story. Author Tim O’Brien’s theme in The Things They Carried is largely focused on weakness and proving that the soldiers of the story are just trying to cover up the their feebleness. The soldiers of Alpha Company are trying to seem strong even though their true selves are shining in the darkness of vietnam. One such soldier that tries to hide his weakness is Lt. Jimmy Cross.
My first example why the theme is loyal because Penelope(Ulysses wife) waited roughly 20 years for him and even when the suitors were determined to marry her they had to use Ulysses bow and arrow and make it pass throw hoops and if they made it they would marry her.Every night
Motifs, which are repeated in the novel, are loneliness, friendship, strength and weakness. Men like George who migrate from farm to farm are often alone. As the story develops, Candy, Crooks, and Curley's wife all confess their deep loneliness. Each of these characters searches for a friend, someone to help them measure the world, as Crooks says. For George, the hope of such friendship dies with Lennie.
M!!Paulsen uses motifs to help understand and develop the theme. A motif is like a theme but is only a word of a few words. It is a reoccurring subject that comes up in many different stories, movies, or books. A motif is a recurrent symbol, idea, or image that develops or explains the theme. A motif from the book would be losing hope. When Gary Paulsen is getting his new canadian dogs for his Iditarod team, the dogs are not very happy and shred their kennels. “ The growl-howl from inside the camper was deafening. It sounded like someone was being torn apart.” (pg. 57) This quote is him losing hope because he is getting his new dogs for the Iditarod and they are tearing up the back of his camper. He is losing his hope for having them run in his sled team. The dogs, Ortho, Murphy, and Devil were vicious and feisty, “ they were no specific breed, but various mixes of
One day in a NFL preseason game Colin Kaepernick decided to take a kneel during the National Anthem and it created a national controversy. Many respected people agree with what he did and I agree too he made a statement for what he believed in. Many athletes before him made these kinds of statements for a cause that they believed in.
It is hard to determine one or the other as "better" because both guys have such different styles. There is little fault in LeBron's game, he's a monster who goes to the basket whenever he wants. Jordan did the similar thing but did not just drive to the rack, due to his difference in size.
Theme is developed in the story, “Hunters in the Snow,” by Tobias Wolff by creating a main idea that being selfish to others will not solve your problems. In a story, theme is the controlling idea or its central idea. This main idea is developed throughout the story by creating a storyline in which a group of boys go on a hunting trip meant to bring them together through the harsh tasks, but fails to do so creating an opposite reaction. “You shouldn't have just left me back there like that” (Wolff 83). This is a quote made by Tub, a character in the story who was falling behind from the group because they were walking to fast for him to keep up. This did not help the boys
America/Americans... what does this mean? Being American can mean many things, where you are from or what race or religion you are as well. These are just a few basic things that can make you feel like an American. But, there are many people who claim they are "Americans" being treated other wise. Examples of this treatment are, "Mericans" from Sandra Cisneros and "Response to Executive Order 9066" by Dwight Okita. In both of these texts, they infer from their point of view, the hardships they faced based on their ethnicity and not being considered an American.
There's plenty of amazing stories in this world, but usually don’t think about the themes. they just like the words they see an the journey you go on while reading. Themes are things that they author tries to convey in the text; like things like death, happiness and life etc.
Mark Twain once said, "To get the full value of joy you must have someone to divide it with" ("Mark Twain > Quotes > Quotable Quote"). From this, we can understand that companionship is necessary in every aspect of life if one wishes to be content. In the novel Of Mice and Men, John Steinbeck portrays the need for companionship through George and Lennie's relationship, Curley's wife's social experiences, and Crooks' loneliness.
The story demonstrates companionship through connections, character interactions and experiences, and the recognition of the value. THANKS FOR THE P.O.C. A few examples of character interactions exist to show how companionship is applied. This begins with the prologue, in
In the text “Dirk the Protector” by Gary Paulsen the theme is no matter what, one way or another you will find a best friend. For example, in the text it states, “He followed me. Not close about eight feet back.” This shows that since Gary already gave Dirk his hamburger, Dirk thought that Gary would have more food and that maybe if he follows a human life wouldn’t be as rough. Another example from the text is, “I thought I’d probably never see him again
People with little in common can still be able to hold a strong and perfect relationship. There can be many differences in people but they could come together and put aside their differences to become good friends. This leads to John Steinbeck’s Of Mice & Men which has many relationships that are all unique and most of the characters are completely look, act, and think differently. The book Of Mice & Men has many themes, but one theme that stood out was people can be totally different, but still have a superb relationship. The characters in Of Mice & Men help unveil the theme by Lennie and his love for animals and George, George choosing to stay with Lennie, and Candy and his loyal canine.
Mystery and Detective Genre Just imagine a horror movie playing in your head that you can control. Every novel had murder, love and isolation that the reader could relate to. Freewill by Chris Lynch describes a high school boy who lost both his parents and now is accused of murder. The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman is a treasure hunt for the Lumen Dei and this one girl has the brains and motivation to have nothing stand in her way to find it. Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf tells a story how a young girl recreates herself after being in an abusive relationship.
While reading the novel, The Fellowship of the Ring, I noticed several themes emerge. Author, J.R.R Tolkien, illustrates a common theme of friendship is forever no matter the situation through emphasis on the strong bond between characters Sam and Frodo.
