Driverless vehicles are those in which operation of the vehicle occurs without direct driver input to control the steering, acceleration, and braking and are designed so that the driver is not expected to constantly monitor the roadway while operating in self-driving mode. They are also called autonomous vehicles and self-driving vehicles. Driverless vehicles would revolutionize the whole automotive industry. The self-driving vehicles will not only save lives but also transform our lives. Self- driving cars will provide new mobility to millions of elderly and people with disabilities who today have few if any, options for mobility. By the combination of ultrasonic, radar, image, and LIDAR sensors; they all have their own different purpose. The role of sensors in driverless vehicles would exceed the capabilities of human drivers. Different types of sensors enable the vehicle to sense their own environment in a better way than a human could. Ultrasonic sensors sent out sound waves when the waves hit an object they produce echoes- revealing the exact location of the obstacle. They play an important role in for automated parking. Currently, ultrasonic sensors only are used at a very low speed. They serve their intended purpose and there is currently no further improvement needed. “Image sensors will work as several cameras generate images of the vehicle 's surroundings, imitating human eyesight. They are able to interpret traffic signs, traffic lights or lane markings. They can also act as a backup system as other sensors fail.
