Food additives are chemicals that are added to foods to keep them fresh or to enhance their color, flavor, or texture. They might include food colorings, flavor enhancers, or a range of preservatives. Most of the time, food additives are listed on the product label (along with other ingredients), spelt out in full or with a code. Some common food additives may include; artificial sweeteners, high fructose corn syrup, monosodium glutamate (MSG), trans fat, common food dyes, and many more. It all depends on what type of additive and your body weight/height to determine the limit of these additives you should have on a daily basis. Artificial sweeteners are a sugar substitute that provides a sweet taste like sugar, but contains less food energy, and are usually genetically modified. Effects of artificial sweeteners can include messing with your hormones, making you overheat, increase the risk of diabetes, and they pollute your water. They can also cause weight gain, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease. High fructose corn syrup is a sweetener made from corn starch, it has been processed by glucose isomerase to convert some of its glucose into fructose. Being that high fructose corn syrup is not natural, it is not healthy at all. It also has many dangerous effects if you consume to much. Some of these effects include; weight gain, cancer, fatty liver and liver stress, increased cholesterol, heart disease, etc. It is best to stay away from products that contain high
