INTRODUCTION :
New science and technologies are already making their way into all aspects of dental practice and have changed the traditional approaches, which require that students and practitioners receive the necessary knowledge.1 Dental laser is one of the most significant developments in modern dentistry. Lasers were introduced into the field of Dentistry in 1960s, with the hope of overcoming some of the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental procedures.2 Conventional methods of cavity preparation with low and high speed handpieces involve noise, uncomfortable vibrations and stress for patients.3 These disadvantages have led to a search for new techniques as possible alternatives for dental hard and soft tissue removal.3 Different

4. DISCUSSION:
Adequate education, appropriate practice and sufficient knowledge are needed to utilize different dental technologies. Education at dental school is the most important source of professional knowledge for the dental students as they rely and depend on the information they are provided in dental school.9 This study provides a general view about dental laser education and knowledge among final year dental students at Saveetha dental college. Most of the dental students know the term ‘‘laser’’, however, this survey in general assessed some basic knowledge of dental students regarding the uses of laser in dentistry. Their knowledge in laser physics, different wavelengths, different types of laser and which type of laser is most appropriate for each case were not assessed. The specific properties of the laser radiation and applications need to be understood in order to practice dental laser effectively and to evade therapeutic mistakes. As reported by the 4% of students, only 3 hrs was the average time for dental laser education they got during their study in the full 5 year dental college program. Majority of the students did not have laser education. This reflects that inadequate
My first exposure to dentistry, out of the chair, came when I began babysitting for a dentist. He worked on the weekends, and his daughter and I would tag along. Initially I stayed as far away from the dentist chair as possible, but later, I became curious, and gradually observant. By the time I reached high school, I was intrigued by every aspect of dentistry. The procedures quickly turned from one of torment into something more familiar. Coming from a family of engineers and contractors, I recognized the doctor’s instruments because they were similar to tools I had grown up watching my father use. I began to think of dentistry as performing small scale construction in a small hole. Performing such intricate procedures while simultaneously utilizing my mind and hands both excited me and complimented my detail attentive personality.
After more than five years of the completion the economic bachelor degree and uncompleted Master degree, now I am pursuing a totally new career, Dental Hygiene, even though I never thought about before. My life was driven around the social trends without thinking of what I really wanted. Now I have chances to pursue my aspirations; I have idea of doing something that I can help people, devolve my life to society. In my country, the science and technology is not modern enough to provide residents the best knowledge about the importance of oral hygiene. Those students like me can appropriate the most modern technologies to help our people. It is so amazing that Dental Hygienists can provide valuable services whereas building the trustworthy connections with patients. As a result, I chose dental hygiene as the foundation for my health profession since.
This morning I woke up and looked in the mirror and noticed that my teeth were not as white as I like them to be. I think to myself, I need to call and make an appointment to get my teeth whitened with my dentist. Teeth whitening is an example of Cosmetic Dentistry. Cosmetic Dentistry is different than regular dentistry in the sense that regular dentistry deals with oral hygiene and the prevention, diagnosing and treating of any oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry however focuses on improving a person’s teeth, smile, and mouth. General dentistry deals with what needs to be done whereas Cosmetic dentistry is
This year, the topic for our dental capstone project is to solve a problem in the dental field through informing the community. We figured that most people aren’t completely aware of the different specialties of dentistry. It is common to visit the general dentist every 6 months for teeth cleaning, but many people don’t know about oral and maxillofacial surgeons, or pedodontists, etc. Our purpose for this capstone project is to educate the public on the differences between the several dental specialties. By creating 3-Dimensional models of each dental office, we are able to demonstrate the uniqueness and purpose of each specialty.
Technology is a very growing area and one cannot be successful if they are not up on the latest. In the dental field, most dental offices are now “digital and paperless”. It will be my responsibility to make sure that I teach my students how to function in a digital environment. In order to do this, I must be proficient in this area. If I will be successful, I must know what new procedures and technology is being used in the dental field. “Dental technologies have been evolving continually, helping to transform the field of dentistry. New technologies are developed with a focus on creating products and developing techniques that can be used by dentists to help prevent, diagnose and/or treat dental conditions and diseases
A vocation as a dental hygienist offers an extensive variety of difficulties. In the dental office, the dental specialist and the dental hygienist cooperate to meet the oral wellbeing needs of patients. Since every state has its own particular regulations with respect to their obligations, the scope of administrations performed by hygienists shifts from state to state. A percentage of the administrations gave by dental hygienists might include: quiet screening strategies, for example, evaluation of oral wellbeing conditions, audit of the wellbeing history, oral tumor screening, head and neck investigation, dental graphing and taking circulatory strain and beat taking and creating dental radiographs (x-beams) evacuating math and plaque (hard

I have seen it every time I have gone to the dental office. I have had this artifact used on me but I’ve never used it myself. Every time an air-driven handpiece is used on me, I feel a very uncomfortable sensation in my tooth. This artifact reminds me of a drill and is also known as a dental drill. Dentist uses this “drill” in order to remove cavities, tooth decay, and plaques. I personally believe the people who invented the air-driven dental handpiece created it in order to remove
Innovation and quality are two goals that every dental practice always would like to reach and keep to enhance their image in the dental field. Therefore, beyond the professional techniques of the dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants, continuing to look for better dental equipment is the key to drive a dental practice to its steady success. I believe, along with the growth of a general office, a curing light is an indispensable equipment.
Dental hygiene is very important and the people at Sima dental are there to help, while working there I experienced what it was like to be a dental assistant while watching the doctors perform difficult dental procedures. This experience has encouraged me to further my studies in the field of dental hygiene. In this paper, I will be describing the tasks I undertook as a dental assistant while overseeing the dental operations at Sima dental as well as articulating the skills that I have acquired while being an intern.
Working as a dental assistant in the Family Dentistry Clinic and Sunset Family Dental has given me the hands on experience of the tasks in a dental clinic. I assisted for many procedures such as: fillings, root canals, orthodontic treatments and cleanings. I was fascinated because although each procedure was carried out similarly it touched each patient’s life in a unique way. Working directly with the patient, I was required to ensure they are comfortable and had their needs addressed. Assisting for various dentists, I gained confidence in my skills by taking x-rays, handling dental equipment, taking and preparing dental models. I also sharpened my dexterity by working in a dental lab and prepared bleaching trays, made retainers and repaired
The purpose of this assignment was to state why the topic of engaging dental hygiene students with the use of technology that supported active learning wanted to be studied, what was already presumed about this topic, if there are personal experience associated with this topic that might create obstacles, if this topic benefited the field of education, and if this topic sustained a prolonged focus to complete the Capstone project.
In the course of my work on this project, I had a firsthand understanding on the concept of dental emergencies. It requires precision, speed and the expertise of a
As an undergraduate student, I did not want to lose the training I had gained from my first dentist I shadowed. Thus, I volunteered to work as a student dental assistant and observed various dental procedures. The more time I spent shadowing Dr. Chun, the more my fondness for dentistry grew because I loved watching procedures such as a tooth restoration and tooth extraction. I loved being in the office and witnessing Dr. Chun alleviated the pain of her patients. Her desire went beyond fixing the oral problem but also she educated her patients on preventative measure. Dr. Chun taught me the importance of oral health, and how important it was to educate others on preventative measures. In the
In addition, since thorough plaque removal from all surfaces of the teeth is required for optimal oral hygiene and oral health, and since the onset of periodontal disease occurs at the gingival margins and interproximally, plaque evaluations included assessments of whole mouth plaque reductions, as well as reductions from the harder to-reach gingival margin and approximal surfaces. Gingivitis reductions were evaluated using MGI, GBI, and the number of bleeding sites, and for all three measures the O-R power brush offered statistically significant benefits compared to the advanced sonic brush. Dental plaque is the single most important factor in the onset and presence of gingivitis. Therefore, the development of effective brush heads is important clinically and economically, as dental visits and healthcare costs are significantly reduced. Consistent with these results Side O-R power brushes have been extensively researched in more than 150 clinical studies compared to manual and power control brushes, with several systematic reviews confirming their benefits Bias did exist within this review as Oral-B is a subsidiary of Gillete which is owned by P&G. However this is still supported by the experimenter blind model of this
