INTRODUCTION
This paper serves to explore the potential benefits of implementing an ERP system, namely the Systems, Applications & Products in Data Processing (SAP) software, into a business’s distribution process. It seeks to educate the reader on what an ERP/SAP system is, benefits of implementing it as well as best practices to enable successful implementation of the system.
Background
According to the official SAP website, (SAP America, 2017) stands for Systems, Applications and Products in data processing. It is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system by SAP AG, a company based out of Wall Dorf in Germany. It provides end to end solutions for financials, manufacturing, logistics, distribution etc. All business processes are executed in one SAP system, which

A good distribution system quite simply means the company has greater chance of selling its products more than its competitors. The company that spreads its products wider and faster into the market place at lower costs than its competitors will make greater margins absorb raw material price rise better and last longer in tough market conditions” (The Economic Times, 2017). This therefore shows just how important the distribution industry is to the supply chain and the overall process of buying and selling products. In Jamaica, we recognize that there is a common problem within the distribution process, namely, inventory management which can be defined as the supervision of non-capitalized assets and stock items,(Rouse & Cole, 2017). We have observed where companies have been underperforming because of the poor use of forecasting methods and other tools critical to success. This, in turn, leads to a decline in production and triggers a domino effect that results in dissatisfied customers. This observation led us to do further research and a common issue that was discovered is the lack of Enterprise Resource Planning systems within Jamaican
As a result of technological advancements, modern businesses seek new and improved methods of conducting their business processes. Systems have been designed to augment and manage core business functions such as production, accounting, procurement, and human resources. However, even with these systems in place, information is unreliable and inconsistent if they are on disparate platforms. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software tackles this problem by integrating business processes into a centralized system.
In today’s business environment, companies use integrated information systems to gain competitive advantages. The primary objective of senior management is to generate a 10% profit to reinvest into the enterprise and expand their divisions. Several of Bandon’s competitors have implemented ERP with integrated CRM solutions. In order for Bandon Group, Inc. to compete with businesses such as Xerox, it is necessary to integrate the business applications. According to Monk, Ellen, & Wagner, “increasing information system efficiency often results in the effective management of business processes, which is essential to maximizing profit and sustainable growth” (2009). Bandon Group has common critical problems and issues within the organization today; there are also opportunities and challenges that need to be addressed. The technology department is small and strained. With the range of various technical solutions that have been implemented across the divisions it has become very difficult to provide data migrations, network support, technical support and training (Sumner, 2005). An ERP system can dramatically reduce costs and improve operational efficiency as it removes feudal decision-making and facilitates data integration and transparency between business units

Whirlpool Europe’s implementation of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is a positive business investment. One of the biggest challenges that Whirlpool Europe faces is a disconnect in the information systems. This disconnect has led to a decrease in product availability, loss in sales, and an unreasonably high inventory. A new system will allow Whirlpool Europe to improve operating effectiveness and efficiency. The cost of implementation of the ERP is quite substantial. However, the benefits do outweigh the costs when net present value is calculated and compared. Once the ERP system is implemented, sales offices will be able to view inventory across the entire supply chain to determine what
The fundamental configuration of the trial is seven to nine undergrads are sat in a classroom for a "visual judgment examination" and they think about the length of lines. The experimenter had two cards, the primary card had one line and the second had 3 lines with various lengths. The understudies were requested that give their answer out loud and in the request of which they were sitting. There was one and only understudy who didn't realize that they were being tried.
The production staffs viewed the adoption of SAP as an ERP system that focuses on function such as inventory, finance, accounting, production, etc. They had doubt about how SAP modules are relevant to their business processes. The production staffs believed the functional view poorly represents the interaction with other functional views.
ENTERPRISE RESOURCE PLANNING (ERP) AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT (SCM) -APPLICATION IN RETAIL INDUSTRY SUPPLY CHAIN (MARKS AND SPENCER)
SAP is a software company whose main product is an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software. SAP was founded in 1972 in Walldorf, Germany under the name System Analysis and Program Development. (SAP) SAP has more than 54,000 employees with sales and development locations in more than 50 countries. Their revenue in 2010 was € 12.5 billion and based on market capitalization, SAP is the third largest independent software manufacturer. In business, it is important for companies to be able to communicate effectively. Each department of a company relies on the other departments as they add to the value chain. One way for a company to integrate its different departments is enterprise resource planning. ERPs are software programs that allow companies to join together data across operations on a company wide basis (Jessup and Valacich 248). ERPs store company information in a common database and allow all departments to access it from one central location (Koch). Companies without ERPS may contain many legacy systems, each operating with different
SAP is the enterprise application software market leader, helping companies of all sizes and industries run better. With the help of an ERP system, if all the data is consolidated at a single place and all the units have access to this huge repository of data, it can benefit the business tremendously. Not only will there be transparency among the units, but there will also be cross-divisional sharing of best practices and information. ERP software will help Maytag integrate business processes across the various divisions into a single enterprise-wide information system. This will improve coordination across functional departments and increased efficiencies of doing business. The immediate benefit can also be the reduced operating costs, such as lower inventory control cost, lower production costs, lower
There are several benefits of using SAP for business, and it delivers techniques that are contemporary and greatly resourceful. Their backing framework is incomparable in the software manufacturing (Bennett, 2013). SAP is an assimilated software technique which can integrate all the modules of a company into one mode by resolving data distributing drawback between units in actual period. SAP can be modified for certain
Before 1997, sales orders at the call center were written on paper and then passed to order entry clerks. This added time to order entry, delayed shipment and resulted in poor accuracy. Consequently, sales representatives often had to contact customers to correct errors or to suggest different options due to inventory shortages. On average, 30% of the orders required customer callbacks, compare to only 5% at A&D’s primary competitor. In 1997, A&D implemented its first enterprise resource planning software. The industry leaders were SAP (http://www.sap.com), Peoplesoft (http://www.peoplesoft.com) and J.D. Edwards (http://www.jdedwards.com). A&D opted for J.D. Edwards primarily because it was customizable to handle the thousands of parts that A&D used for its production. The customization required many external consultants to design and built the system. There were some concerns that the system maybe difficult to maintain since the consultants left soon after the system was implemented. Even so, the project was deemed a success in that customer callbacks were reduced to less than 1% of the orders. In 1999, given the successful implementation of ERP, A&D decided to further invest to improve its systems in handling the supply chain, payment process, CRM and order management. A series of technology initiatives were launched. A&D saw immediate benefits in reducing costs and significant return on investment on the supply chain and the
This project is the analysis of two different ERP systems, Microsoft Dynamics GP10 and SAP ERP Release 6.0. More specifically, the comparison of the accounts receivables and reporting functions in both systems are part of this in-depth analysis, concluding with a summery with considerations on the better system for managing the accounts receivables.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and SAP have worked together closely to certify the AWS platform so that companies of all sizes can fully realize all the benefits of the SAP HANA in-memory computing platform on the AWS
