Though drama in the classroom can be depicted in many forms, there are three main forms, which are dramatization, role playing, improvisation.
The use of a novel is a good way for mastering not only linguistic system but also life in relation to the target language. First, Separating Children’s Literature from adult literature is an important stage to suit the child thought, to enrich his language development skills. A literature directed to the child, which has a distinctive
As well as the quality of spoken language that children hear on a day to day basis will have a vast impact on the grammar and language they use. Therefore teachers and all teaching staff should ensure they continue to develop children’s confidence when it comes to communication by developing the skills needed to explain their understanding this is also vital when it comes to understanding and explaining of books or other recourses. All children should have access to and be encouraged to develop their role in drama. Pupils should be able to adopt, create and sustain a range of roles, responding appropriately to others in role. They should have opportunities to improvise, devise and script drama for one another and a range of audiences, as well as to rehearse, refine, share and respond thoughtfully to drama and theatre
Many kids in school are wanting to learn a new language away from their native language but many students are wondering what language is going to help them the most in the future. English is the clear answer for these students that are wondering what new language to learn for a number of reasons. Through different articles through the book “Language: A Reader for Writers” it discusses how language is the most successful and most useful language to speak. College students who want to learn a second language, that have not learned English, should learn English because it is the most widely used language in the world and it is the most useful language to learn.
The timeline of the drama program is it would start in October and end in May. The program will include teachers and community members as volunteers. Ideally, the people who volunteer would be interested in the arts such as: music, art, dance and acting. But, experience in those fields is not required. The students will have the opportunity to learn reading comprehension skills such as: sequence of events, vocabulary and summarization. The students will choose one book to read and study per month, and the activities will coordinate with those books. The books the children will choose from will vary in topic and difficulty, but will be on the 2nd grade reading level. The drama techniques that will be used are: hotseating, role-play and tableaux.
Good writers, like Huntley Fitzpatrick, know how to appeal to their audience, for figurative language is more than an “intellectual extravagance” (Krauss). According to R. Grant Steen, “For communication to serve the needs of the listener as well as the needs of the speaker, the listener must be able to understand what the speaker is "really" saying. It is not enough to understand the literal meaning of speech” (Krauss). The key to an interesting novel is the compelling storyline drawing you in and making want to read just a little more, for “no facet of humanity’s evolved “genius” as Aristotle put it more than 2300 years ago, sparkles so brilliantly as our unique capacities for extra-literal description and comprehension” (Krauss).
Dramatic play is one of the most important and useful center for children in the classroom. By playing in dramatic play they can develop their physical, cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional domains. In the article “Supporting Language: Culturally Rich Dramatic Play” the author state” Mrs. Ramos invites them to talk about their weekend activities. Rodrigo says he and his grandmother went to the panaderia (bakery). Two children ask, “What is that?” Juanita explains, “That’s a bakery where you buy bread and cake.” Mrs. Ramos says she and her mother used to go to the panaderia when she was a child. The children smile.” This a further proof of how children can develop their cognitive, linguistic
However, new language learners most face some difficult and boredom in reading, so teachers should try to give students books that can attract students interest and curiosity. Reading stories and novels can create great interest and suspense that ELL student’s need. Through my reading to this book ‘Their Eyes Were Watching God’ I strongly recommend it as one of these books that can benefit ELS students. According to Krashen (1993) reading is an effective way to increasing and improving improve spelling, grammar, and writing for ELL students, especially reading for pleasure. Krashen also said that students who read for pleasure have better reading comprehension, writing style, and increasing vocabulary. The author also emphasized that the best way to develop Vocabulary is through real encounters words within context (Krashen,
High School English teaches students think about, react to and solve problems they might face outside of the classroom. Including fiction in the curriculum can achieve these goals. Novels address issues in today’s society that can help students make connections between the classroom and the real world. A recurring issue in society today focuses on the rise and popularity of technology. A novel, such as Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, that shows the harmful effects of technology can help students connect the problems with technology in their own lives.
Language can change the way we read a passage. Authors write in a way that the reader can feel a certain way. If authors didn’t write their books like this reading would be boring. In “Romeo and Juliet” Shakespeare wrote so that you could feel the love between them. In John Green’s “The fault in our stars” he uses metaphors. Martin Luther King, jr` a strong persuasive voice, he could use this to make his speeches even stronger than they already were.
Throughout all of time, literature has played an important role in people’s lives. Books are more than just stories to laugh at, cry with, or fall asleep to, but books can teach. Literature
The language also helps to link the story with the historical and cultural aspects that the author worked hard to
The teacher will elicit the activities their going to do by means of drama techniques.
drama is so good for young children: it teaches them not only how to speak clearly, loudly and with confidence, but many other communication skills as well. For example, at Perform we have developed games that focus on simple yet important lessons like looking someone in the eye when you talk to them and maintaining that eye contact. Clear diction is encouraged through tongue twisters and raps and voices are nurtured through our singing and vocal warm up exercises.
Content and curriculum of this class focused on exploring and examining literature from other countries and foreign authors. Students were to find applications of these writings in their own life and society. Assessments in the class were done in a variety of ways: creating a storybook, writing an essay, answering questions on a worksheet, and more. The diversity of options allowed each student to use their individual skills and fostered creativity and critical thinking. Not only does the teacher address student and cultural diversity in this class, but she also better informs students about the world. World literature teaches students the value of knowledge and understanding and challenges them to form opinions based on their newly-acquired
Despite the claim that Drama in Education ( DIE) as a pedagogy dimmed its popularity in the Western world since 1990 until 2016 (Gallagher, et al. , 2017), in the year of 2011, Morrow, et al. included it as one of the best practices in literacy instruction. Some of the teachers who had the experience of trying process drama in their classrooms found that the pedagogy improved students’ participations, pushed students to use their imaginations, performed deeper understanding of the topics being learned and made the students learn to have empathy ( Long, 1998). Do the voices from the classroom resemble to what researchers and theories have to say on process drama?
