Netflix could pursue multiple options in order to remain viable in the industry. In order to achieve vertical integration Netflix would have to control two of the four aspects of the supply chain. Those include commodities, manufacturing, distribution, and retail. There are many advantages to vertical integration including control over the market (Amadeo, 2016). If Netflix could have a partnership with the movie and television industry they could monopolize the online streaming industry and, therefore, decrease cost to the consumer. By collaborating with the partners this would decrease cost to Netflix and increase revenues. This would allow more offerings for the viewer and increase customer loyalty and increase the customer base. Overall efficiency is improved when collaborating with supply companies. A supply chain strategy is important to any company when making strategic decisions. This improves the ability to effectively market products, and improves distribution of products to the consumer (Ferrell, Hartline, 2014). Increased efficiency and control over quality are pros to vertical intergration for Netflix.
The biggest disadvantage to vertical integration would be cost to the company. It is expensive

Integration could also benefit business competitiveness in that it is an extremely fast way for a business to grow. In many industries the ‘first mover advantage’ is crucial to any business that wants to capitalise on other areas of the industry that have not yet been exploited. If one firm manages to utilise the first mover advantage other firms may be left behind and so may struggle to compete in a certain area. However if a firm was to buy out competition then they would have less of a problem trying to establish themselves in the area. Asda recently took over Netto for a figure of £778mil. The move saw Asda instantly take over the 193 Netto stores across the UK many of which are small high street shops compared to the typical supermarket stores that Asda currently operates. The move will allow Asda to compete with other high street stores such as Tesco express and Sainsbury’s division of small high street stores. Without the takeover Asda would have found it incredibly difficult to establish themselves in this area of the industry. However Asda now have bought into an number of stores that will be situated across the UK and will be able to compete with the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury’s. The takeover has also gained Asda a further 0.7% share in the market
Before the late 1800s, a company could be formed with an owner and possibly have family to take over after they died. But if there were no family members, usually the business died out or just ran out of money. During the late 19th century, corporations began to form. Corporations are made up of many people cooperating and they function legally as a person. Vertical integration requires acquiring all means of production. This is a pricey investment, but ultimately has a huge payoff, when you cease to have costs after that. To use horizontal integration, a company must buy all the other companies that produce the same product.
Vertical integration is when one firm joins with another at a different stage of the same production process. Forward Vertical is when the other firm is at a later stage and Backward Vertical is when the other firm is at an earlier stage. Vertical integration as a whole allows for a firm to control key stages of the production process; guarantees access to a market; and gains control of supplies. Companies such as Zara and American Apparel are vertically integrated, especially at key stages of

Andrew Carnegie, for one, built a giant steel empire using vertical integration, a business tactic that increased profits by eliminating middlemen from the production line. Conversely, John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company used horizontal

This also allows their content to be viewed virtually anywhere. The fact that they teamed up with Oracle to work on their website was a very beneficial move as this gives them somewhat propitiatory technology. I personally enjoy their recommendations and it is obvious that with their next arrival that they have strong logistics. They have a big cost advantage too. If I can stream a whole season of How I Met Your Mother in one day, I feel as though the $8.99 that I spent was a good investment and yet I still have another 29 or 30 days to go. The two times that I had to deal with their customer service; they quality of service was outstanding and I’ve heard many other wonderful testimonials. When looking at weaknesses, I feel that their inability to provide new releases is a major drawback. In addition to this, they need to amp the selection for online streaming since streaming is expanding rapidly. The issue at hand with streaming is that it can potentially lead to server crashes if there are too many users on at once. Netflix can also be very enticing to hackers since there is so much personal information stored. I would say that the biggest opportunity for Netflix would to be to make deals with the movie production companies to allow Netflix to offer new releases. To feed off of that, they need to increase their variety; particularly in the selection of indie and international films. With as
A business must be highly competitive in the business markets today. For a business to grow successfully, remain sustainable, and competitive a business needs a good understanding of a marketing plan, and the knowhow to put the concepts to work for the business achieving a successful marketing strategy. Remaining successful when an economic growth has leveled out shows a sustainable business. Competitors that follow the same marketing concepts will need to develop a good marketing plan, and implement the concepts into a marketing strategy to remain a competitive business. A good marketing strategy contains a marketing plan describing the products offered, and taking into account

Netflix was founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997 and was originally based out of Scotts Valley California. The business model that they were working towards was to create a company that would offer online movie rental service made available by streaming media as well as DVD’s that could be ordered online and delivered to the customers’ homes. (Wheelen, Case 12). Netflix had a strategic plan to undercut the competition in an effort to stress the market and force weaker competition out of the field. This was a very successful plan and over a period of years it was able to force the closings of most of its competing market to include the mega giant Blockbuster video. Using a business
