Discourse Community Project A discourse community is a community that shares the same "discourses" or values or goals as their community. An example of this would be a sports team or organization. Players of these specific teams all work together to achieve a common goal; to win. These players have a coach that is a powerful leader and that individual makes them strive to be the best players they can be. Moreover, it is important for each player to have trust in each other and to form bonds. They do this through communication. This is an important trait for them because if the players do not trust their own teammates, there will be no unity. I myself can vouch for these statements because I was once a part of many teams for multiple years. I was a part of sports teams throughout my entire adolescence leading all the way to high school. When I had experiences with my club teams, I came to realize just how important common connections and goals were for a team to be prosperous and successful. When a team establishes trust and friendships, they can truly work together as a whole. Often times the teams I was a part of lacked in this area of bonding. For discourse communities, social media can also act as a bonding experience. For example, there is an app called "GroupMe" which allows multiple people in a group to all communicate and send messages simultaneously. Individuals in this discourse community can talk, chat, and like comments and it is a way in which a team can stay connected and informed. For example, if someone forgot something they might have needed in a game, they can use this application to send a message to all of their teammates at the same time. Through the conversation of new information this group can always stay informed and ready for whatever they must face
