All around the world people are being discriminated; some are discriminated because of their race, while others are because of their gender, such as women. In today world, it is no different than it was 10,000 years ago. Women are still sold into prostitution, forced to marry someone they don’t love, have no right for abortion or birth control, have little or no access to education, and have to fully rely on men. This is not fair at all, women should have right’s, they didn’t before here in the United States, but now they do (even though it still exists here). In fact they probably can’t get a job at all. You might be thinking that the men just work harder, but in fact this happens even when women work harder than the man. It even happens when women have a higher position than a man; the man might actually get paid more even though that is rare. Not only is this against the law, but also one thing people actually ignore is that discrimination against women does affect our own economy.

In the end it was determined that for several countries a large portion of the difference for outcome is due to gender inequality. It is not up for debate whether women are discriminated against in the workplace, it is evident in census data; in 2013, among full-time, year-round workers, women were paid 78 percent of what men were paid. It is said that the organizations that are pro-equal pay, including some unions, support the idea that the government should set wages for all jobs. To the contrary, the organizations that are proponents of equal pay are not for job wages being set by the government-they wish to have the discrimination taken out of pay scales from within the company. Commonly, this pay gap is attributed to the fact that women in the United States are still expected to attend to familial obligations over work.

In the United States today discrimination is still an issue in society. As a society progress has definitely been made, but it has never fully gone away. Women in general have been discriminated by men that don’t believe in the power of women. Over the course of time, some men discriminate women by particular things that make them men are superior then women. Women are strong not only physically but emotionally and mentally, but some men don’t seem to notice yet. There are people that think men and women aren’t in the same level, and they don’t give women the opportunity to show it. Throughout years in America people have found evidences that there is a wage gap between two genders. Women deserve to be equally paid just as men are being paid. Both genders work the same amount of hours, but have different pay checks; this is unfair because women shouldn’t be paid less just for being a woman. Women have experienced discrimination since the beginning of time and in some countries women still do not have certain rights. In America, companies still tend to discriminate against women. My mother has always promoted sisterhood and support for women. Growing up, I was taught that women, although we can do anything we want to do, need a support system, because we are traditionally the underdogs, and we should not accept being treated unfairly. My mother likes to tell a story about how, when she was a girl, she told her dad that she had decided to become a lawyer when she grew up. In response to her proclamation, my grandfather, an attorney himself, asked, "Isn’t that an awfully expensive education for a girl?"
Throughout history man has always felt superior to women. Though most believe that America has moved past this discrimination, it is still very much so practiced. Of course in the news we hear about how women are treated in other countries. They either work all day for the family, have little to no rights, or in general are put down.
