In class we read the novelette Of Mice and Men over the course of a week. We were asked to create a collage demonstrating one theme that stood out. I decided to use discrimination as the theme for it appeared often in the story. Many different forms of discrimination were apparent in the novelette including racial, gender, and disabilities.
The theme that I chose emerged quickly, The whole time that I was reading the book I noticed the poor treatment towards the different classes. I knew right away that I wanted my project to be about the horrible inequality. I didn't do anything to plan for the collage, besides figuring out the quotes in advance. The quotes were the first thing I put on the collage, followed by the pictures. The pictures took longer to find because I was trying to correlate the pictures to my quotes. Instead of focusing on just racial discrimination, I broadened the topic to associate types of discrimination. Another strength of the project was the works cited page. I believe that it was written correctly and formatted right.
One of the weaknesses of the project was the lack of originality. I probably should have been more creative with the formatting of the collage. I basically just followed the layout of the example given but made a few small changes. The other weakness was in my paper. I think I could have put more examples from my life to draw in with the theme of discrimination.
One thing I learned while doing this project is I can’t write well under pressure. I should never put things off until the very last day, otherwise it will take me even longer to finish. I have always known that I take forever when I am doing a writing assignment, so it didn’t surprise me that it took three hours.
