you guys out. Romi also said that Mariah took off her jacket that she had on and the group of kids started calling her a stripper and kept telling her to strip. Romi said his group that he was with everyone kept telling the four black males to knock it off and that they were being inappropriate. He said one of the males knocked Christian to the ground and started punching him in what he believed to be the right side of Christian's face and temple area. He said the kid that started it was a shorter black male with a messy afro. He also said the other kids started hitting Christian while he was down on the ground. Romi said that several people started helping Christian and people were pulling the other kids off Christian. I asked him if …show more content…
They told me that they would have to call their director because I couldn't speak with anyone until their Director was notified and gave them autorization. I waited while they were calling their director. Dr. Marche Fleming-Randle was on scene and told them she was going to call someone to help us. Dr. Marche Fleming-Randle had somebody else make a phone call. They then handed the phone to the staff on the second floor. There were three staff members from the second floor. They passed the phone around and each of them talked to whoever was on the phone for awhile. There were also staff members from the 4th floor that came downstairs with us. After the staff hung up the phone they told us that we could speak with whoever we needed. I asked them if there was a Destini Price on their floor. They told me they didn't have anyone by that name but they had a Destini. I asked if they had a photo roster and described the person that I was looking for as a light skinned African American female that was short, chunky, and had a flat top. They told me that was Destini Pugh. They showed me a photo of her and one of the staff members from the 4th floor went and showed Kendrionna which she confirmed that was the female she was talking about. The staff came back to the second floor and told me that Kendrionna confirmed the picture. The staff went and got Destini and told me she would bring her to the lounge. A short while later, the three staff members from the second floor and Destini came into the lounge. I identified myself to Destini. Officer Albert was present to and he identified himself to her as well. I explained that she wasn't in any trouble and that there was a fight on the main campus and she might know some of the people that were involved in the fight. I told her that there were a bunch of people fighting and someone said
Several leaders in the past were recognized and are still being recognized for their efforts in trying to deal with various societal issues such as discrimination from those considered superior in the society. Among them inclue Thmas Jefferson and Elizabeth Cady, who spoke in different ways about how leaders should deal with the discrimination challenges and the reasons for abolishing discrimination against the minority. They shared similarities in the way they wanted humankind to achieve liberation in different forms, although they also exhibited differences in the way this objective was to be achieved. They believed that the leadership of any society was responsible for wellbeing of its people in different ways and this implied that they
The example of the ban on same sex marriage in America is a prime and relevant event reflecting institutional discrimination in modern day. “Institutional discrimination permeates American systems so deeply that we may not recognize it” (Day & Scheile, 2012). Institutional discrimination enforces what is socially accepted or the social norm and same sex marriage, up until this point, had not been either. With the Supreme Court ruling in June 2015 to lift the ban on same sex marriage, the value system of many Americans are beginning to be tested. “Normatively, marriage is a social, sexual and economic relationship in which a man and a women are legally joined to found and maintain a family” (Day & Scheile, 2012). As we, being society, move
I chose discrimination and prejudice for my multicultural paper, because I feel that discrimination and prejudice is the main reason for all the hate in the world. People are discriminated against because of reasons such as race, ethnicity, religion, looks, sex, sexual orientation, class, and other ridiculous reasons. I feel that if discrimination could be eradicated, then this world would be a peaceful place to live. Discrimination has been plaguing this world since the beginning of time. I am sure there was prejudice as Homo sapiens started interbreeding with Neanderthals. I could picture Homo sapiens parents telling their children to stay
Women in the workplace get discriminated against due to their gender. There is a sense of them being "weak" and to nice to lead a group by their male coworkers. Women should be in business to create a more diverse work environment and to bring a feminine touch to business. Discrimination in the workplace occurs often but should not discourage women to go into business. Women bring a certain emotional aspect to the work environment that cannot be brought by men.
This particular case is very unique because it’s a very theoretical argument in some ways. The student won his case originally and was allowed to attend law school. His argument of reverse discrimination was found to have merit because he was not admitted to the University of Washington state law school but other less qualified students were. Those students happened to be minority students. So the trial court in 1971 ordered that he be admitted to the university. Then in his second year the judge’s decision in this case was reversed by the state’s high court. Which seems pointless to me because he has already been admitted and been working o earning his degree for almost two years. I understand clearly evidence was found that caused the
After reading both articles, “Does Reverse Discrimination Exist?” and “Because reverse discrimination is a real thing”, where the topic of reverse discrimination is discussed I would have to conclude that reverse discrimination does not exist in our society. Often times I find that the “reverse discrimination” discussion is often started by white people when people of another race bring attention to racism and discrimination, or create opportunity specific to themselves that white people aren’t a part of. It seems the reasoning to justify the ongoing reverse racism argument is to somehow “prove” that people of other races don’t have it that bad, because they are not the only ones that are put at a disadvantage due to their race. I believe

Discrimination is typically defined as the practice of treating a person differently from other people or groups of people. In terms of economics, discrimination occurs when people with similar economic characteristics, experience different economic outcomes due to their race, sex or other noneconomic attributes. For instance, a black worker whose skills and experience is identical to those of a white worker but receives a much lower wage is a victim of discrimination. A country will not be operating efficiently if discrimination still exists in the society. If enough people have prejudices against certain racial groups or against anyone with any particular characteristic, the market will definitely respond to those preferences. Discrimination is a major issue that we have to deal with whether we like it or not.
I do not subscribe to the supposition that a law is necessarily racist or discriminatory just because that is may disproportionally affect one group over another. It is a factor to be considered, but not the sole basis. In the example that the prosecution of pregnant woman is racist solely because it affects more African American females than White females, I would disagree. I believe the government has an interest in ensuing that women not harm their unborn child by the use of narcotics or other illegal drugs.
The manager's actions do apply to reverse discrimination. He is favoring Applicant A because he is black and has no work experience as a custodian. In today's society, it is harder for white men to get jobs because owners want their business to be diverse and that attracts customers. The defintion of reverse discrimination is basically favoring people that have been discriminated and in this case, the white man wasn't picked because of his color. Also, we're kind of assuming the manager is white even though it doesn't say in the text. The manager could've picked Applicant A because their from the same race or they're both in the minority group. Say Applicant B applies for another job as a custodian, will he ever get a job or will he always
Review the anti-discrimination legislation outlined in the chapter. Do you see any challenges those legislative actions present in the hospitality industry?
The percentage of whites with obesity are much lower than the other ethnicities because white families tend to eat healthier due to a higher income rate. Studies show that in low income neighborhoods contain far less grocery stores and an abundant amount fast food restaurants. This is only half of the problem, even if there are grocery stores available, an income large enough to afford real healthy food, whilst a place to live, is not easily come by in certain regions. Statistics show that the percentage of Whites living below poverty line is a mere 9% while Latinos (20%) and blacks (22%) show numbers over twice the amount. What could be causing such a large Wage Gap? In 2010, White Americans held 88% of the wealth and only 64% of the population where as Black Americans were 2.7% of the wealth and 13% of the population. In 2003 the National Bureau of Economic Research found that Job Applicants with White sounding names got one callback for every ten resumes while those with African-American sounding names got one callback for every fifteen resumes sent out. Lack of call backs on resumes for ‘Ethnic Names’ all the way to Less pay for the Equal work are only two reasons why the Black American community is showing such alarming obesity rates. Getting rid of Workplace discrimination is the First step to solving the large wage gap in the United States.
My first experience with discrimination I was 17 years old. I was involved in the Business Professionals of America program with my high school. In that class, they taught us how to write, speak, talk, act as a young business professional. We were starting to look for jobs because the senior year we would be working part time. I was over joyed by this student had to make sure their grades in other classes never fell below a C in order for you to work and leave school around 11:30 am. This one particular company I wanted to work for since we started the program my freshman year. I was so excited to compete with my two other class mates for the position we all had to send them a copy of our resume' and they would pick from that. I made sure
Distinction between prejudice and discrimination is attitude versus action. Prejudice refers to negative attitudes or feelings toward or about an entire category of people (Mooney p. 289). Whereas discrimination refers to the actions or practices that result in the differential treatment of categories of individuals (Mooney, p. 292); individuals act on their prejudices which result in discrimination. It is critical to analyze the relationship between prejudices and discrimination as to they affect society. The attitudes and behaviors that produce inequalities and refute social integration amongst various minority groups. Nonetheless, a vicious cycle in which when one leads to the other or a combination occurs, social problems are
Each one of us has probably felt being alienated or outcast at one point or another Each one of us has felt that moment when we might have been treated differently or when we felt uncomfortable because we felt different from everybody else. Discrimination due to prejudice and stereotyping is one of the many issues that we must face in a culturally and socially diverse world. Understanding these concepts and the mechanisms behind these behaviors may actually help us be a step closer to solving this social disease.
