At-risk drivers who are over-confident in their driving skills underestimate the consequences their actions have. Many engage in distracting tasks when behind the wheel that can be deadly, e.g., texting.
B. At-risk drivers can be very dismissive about certain traffic rules, e.g., rolling past a stop sign because they don’t see anyone.
C. Unemotionally stable drivers can be a danger to the people around them. Ex- Drivers that are overreact to most situations can get distracted and forget that they are still behind the wheel.
2. Describe three characteristics of safe drivers.
A. Safe drivers use good judgment and act appropriately. An example of this would be drivers that speed up to catch a yellow light or decide at the last minute to slam on their brakes because they won’t be able to make it. They put theirs’ and the people around them in danger. A safe driver would plan ahead.
B. Safe drivers are considerate of others. When they see someone trying to change into their lane, they make room for the driver. When they see an emergency vehicle with their sirens/lights on, they move out of the way.
C. Safe drivers must always be sharp and wary of their surroundings. They have to be aware of the cars, motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians around them. They have to be alert to emergency sirens and
I would say I am a very cautious while driving, as well as alert and ready to anticipate something happing.
Reading the “California DMV Handbook” has led me to come to realize that driving would not just be breaking the chains of limited transportation and gaining independence, but also being mindful of other people on the road. To be a responsible driver, you have to learn the laws and regulations and watch for people and signs. I would have to be mindful of other cars on the road as well as pedestrians. In conclusion, this book is a book that has changed my life and impacted the way society is shaped in California. The term “driver” can be applied to just about anyone that is behind the wheel of an automobile. Driving is a task that many people take part in on a daily basis. After driving for a while, one can start to discover the several types of drivers that exists. There are many drivers that can be encountered on the road and their different behaviors help place them into classifications. Three common types of drivers are “Oblivious Drivers,” “Unsure Drivers,” and “Ideal Drivers.”
In these chapters, it covered handling emergencies and the effects on driver's condition. When handling emergency there can be many scenarios like vehicle malfunctions, driver errors roadway hazards, and collisions. Effects on driver's condition vary with emotions while driving, physical senses while driving and physical disabilities.
Drivers can practice several safety tips to help them navigate the road more safely. First, use your cell phone for emergency situations only. Pull over to the right shoulder to make the important call. Next, limit the number of passengers in the car. It is a good idea after a football game for a group of teenagers to drive around town texting and driving. Driving with friends can create a dangerous driving situation because drivers are focused on their friends rather than on the road. Finally, avoid eating while driving. Food spills are a major cause of distraction. Pick up a big Mac and fries on your way home and eat it while you navigate the heavy traffic. Finding the extra fries in the bottom of the bag will taste good as you rear end the car stopping suddenly in front of you.

Distracted driving is perilous driving, yet the new multitasking generation has turned it into the “social norm.” Although many are not aware, visual distractions are not the only way to end up involved in a life changing situation.
