DISCUSSION ON QUALITY ASSURANCE Q1) Explain the regulations and requirements for internal quality assurance in own area of practice. 1.4 “Centre staff should familiarise themselves with the structure, content and assessment requirements of the qualifications before designing a course programme. Centres may design course programmes of study in any way which: • best meets the needs and capabilities of their candidates • satisfies the requirements of the qualifications. When designing and delivering the course programme, centres might wish to incorporate other teaching and learning that is not assessed as part of the qualifications. This might include the following: • literacy, language and/or numeracy • personal learning and …show more content…
Q2) Explain the appropriate criteria to use for judging the quality of the assessment process. 3.2 VALID - Relevant to the standards/criteria against which the candidate is being assessed. Such as 1.1, 1.2 the criteria listed matches the evidence and that it is relevant. For example asking students to carry out extra work that has not been asked of them which is not relevant. AUTHENTICITY - Being the Candidate’s own work. There should be evidence of research and the student should sign their work. SUFFICIENT - Enough evidence as specified in Evidence Requirements or Assessment Strategy. This could mean the sample size relates to how many candidate learners there are and should there be a larger sample size for a new assessor. CURRENCY OF EVIDENCE – the information is up to date. Work should be dated and signed. ACCURACY – that the work is marked against the listed criteria. Evidence of a Candidate’s knowledge, understanding, skill or competence that can be used to make a judgment of their achievement against agreed standards/criteria CONSISTENCY OF ASSESSMENT – needs to be reliable. Consistently achieves the same results with different assessors and the same (or similar) group of Candidates. To monitor this standardization should be put in place to cover a mixture of summative and formative assessments. This should also include a variety of assessment methods such as practical, written and
Sufficient- is the full range of performance identified in the standards covered does the evidence shows competence over a period of time and in a range of contexts.

The assessment strategy should state how the subject should be assessed, and subsequent results recorded. It should also state the experience, professional development and qualifications that assessors should hold. Quality assurance requirements, for example internal and external verification or moderation, will also be stated. Organisation may also have an assessment policy which an assessor should familiarise him/herself with.
To deliver a useful, appropriate teaching session, the needs of the students must first be identified and understood. Whilst I deliver both accredited courses, with a set of specifications which must be met and achieved, and non-accredited courses, with less specific criteria and instead one overall aim or outcome, I need to plan and structure sessions differently depending on different students, in terms of content, pace and resources. This makes an initial assessment a vital part of any course.
It covers a range of different assessments including competence, knowledge and understanding skills.’ Pg 35.
NCFE Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
At Business the functions of internal quality assurance cover a diverse spectrum. However, from the start I must ensure that the candidates are at a level and position to carry out the assignments to meet the criteria involved. I ensure that the employer is involved from the outset and is fully aware of the work and support the candidate will need and be expected to submit. This is done through discussions with the employer and learners and by the completion of a pre-enrolment form. This information is required to ensure consistency with the
All documents are dated and signed to allow us to have a visual audit trail which is easily identifiable. Any paper based documents that are no longer current are archived, clearly labelled and stored securely. Records of Assessment, achievement and Internal Verification activities are kept for the requested three year period and are readily available to the awarding body upon request.
Markers must mark each of the attributes and competencies globally. Judgment must be used in assessing the competencies exhibited in the candidate’s response and assigning a mark for each competency. Guidelines for weighting the various attributes are indicated throughout the assessment guide.
The numbers in the bracket after each question relate to the assessment criteria in the standards
* This is to determine if the delivery and assessment meets the requirements of the standards or assessment criteria , the whole assessment process needs to be accutat, consistate, safe and meets all organisation requirements.
An employer can provide a witness statement that a candidate has competently passed an assessment. It Valid if signed by their employer but still need to check validity could discuss how they achieved this pass what did they do how did they do it.
6. Explain how you prepare the required resources needed to assess your candidate’s knowledge and prepare and maintain conditions that support the effective assessment of your candidate’s knowledge and understanding.I always prepare my resources needed prior to assessing. I ensure I have the standards I need, any worksheets or handouts needed, Planning forms, feedback forms and addition support handouts. I also take care of the learners portfolio keeping this locked up in a cupboard.I ensure that the environment is easy to work in and somewhere the learner can write or take notes. I try to avoid any distractions that may affect the learning. This evidence will be referenced to Unit 303 Assessment
