It was denoted by the taste of salt on a Childs forehead when kissed by a parent. This idea was proven when Paul di Sant'Agnese proved that there was an increased salt excretion within patients who suffered from Cystic Fibrosis. With this break through the ability for doctors to be able to diagnose children became a lot easier and got rid of a large number of invasive tests that were not as effective. In 1985 the medical community narrowed down the source to chromosome 7. Which later paved the way for fully identifying the specific gene in which causes Cystic Fibrosis.
After the Cystic Fibrosis gene was identified the whole focus of the medical community that were studying the disease changed also. It switched from just trying to identify the gene to what the gene looked like structurally, and how it functioned as a whole. As stated earlier Cystic Fibrosis is a recessive disease that is caused by the mutation of the 7th Chromosome. There is a known number of mutations of Cystic Fibrosis which function slightly different than the original. For example Cystic Fibrosis is caused mostly by being born with the disease. The cause of the disease is the fact that both…
