Main body: “The Great Gatsby” is a successful novel which was written by the Mr. Scott Fitzgerald, the story is set in the era of rapid economic development of American in the 1920 s. At that time, people live a life of luxury and dissipation, the whole society is overripe. So this novel discusses the overturn of American dream, and the Gatsby is the main character. From four reasons which are the distortion of the American dream, the influence of the surrounding figures, Gatsby's character and social and historical reasons, the tragedy of Gatsby is inevitable. For Daisy, she is the Gatsby’s first love. They met at a party and loved each other immediately. As that time, Daisy was relatively pure; they also had a good time with each other. But soon, Gatsby entered into the First World War, so they separated. But Gatsby's poverty was also one reason which led to their separation. Daisy was a man monist; she can’t stand the people who had no money. So after the First World War, Gatsby thought as soon as he had the money, he can own the Daisy again. Therefore, he bought the house across the Daisy’s and held parties in his house every day; he wanted to attract Daisy to his party because he thought he loved Daisy and he wanted to meet her. He wanted to use money to win the love, because the Daisy was the ideal people in his heart. He ignored her money worship and wanted to do everything for her. Even in the end, he was also died of her. For Tom, he was the Daisy’s husband and he was very rich. He was a representative figure of high society; he owed the high position, so he looked down upon the ordinary people like Gatsby, because his family background was low. It has the contrast between him and Gatsby; Tom accelerated the tragedy of Gatsby. He told Daisy that Gatsby earned the money by the illegal ways, and then there had the gap between Daisy and Gatsby little by little. On the one hand, Gatsby is a believer of American dream; he thinks he can enter into the high society as soon as he has the money. But in reality, it is not possible, even if he has the money, he is also discriminated by the people of high society like Tom, even if he held parties and attracted many people, he can’t be the real people of high society. As a result, his American dream couldn’t come true. On the other hand, Gatsby wants to find a pure love, and Daisy is the ideal people which he finds out, as long as he met her, he loved her. Therefore, he can do everything for her includes instead of her to die. Because of her, he even becomes rich; he childishly thinks that when he becomes a rich man, he can own the Daisy again. But Daisy's background and social circle are not things that Gatsby could lay a finger on. When he is alive, he holds parities continuously everyday. But when he dies because of Daisy, no one comes to visit him except Nick. It also can be seen the greed of human nature from here. Every one is selfish and cool in this
