Most people have to choose many different things in their life, such as what job to go to, or how they want to be seen in the world. One choice in the Divergent series is to be part of a faction or choose to be factionless. The factionless are said to be outlaws or possibly outcasts, so they are looked down upon by others. In Insurgent Tris, Tobias, and a few faction members meet the factionless for the first time. Their experience was completely different from what they had expected and what they were told. The factionless population was bigger than all of the Dauntless and they seemed to have a self sustaining government. It is better to be factionless because everyone is free to make their own choices and they are not limited to what …show more content…
They do not have to worry about being brave, selfless, or smart they can act on their own and make their own choices. If anyone was in a faction, they would have to pass an initiation process that categorises them and if they fail they will become factionless. The factions also have rules that conform the initiates into what they think is the best they can be. Being factionless means that you decide what is the best for you, being factionless also means that anyone will have free will to go anywhere they want when they want and they will not get in trouble for it because they do not have to follow the rules of a faction. If they were in a faction, they would have to wait until their faction went to wherever they wanted to go like the mall of maybe the local walmart or, possibly risk being factionless because they were there. Roth writes, “My little band of factionless is twice the size of Dauntless,” says Evelyn. (100). With this fact, it makes the factionless more powerful and …show more content…
Unlike the factions, the factionless accept everyone that comes in because they are a mix of all the different factions; Erudite, Dauntless, Abnegation, Amity, and Candor. If a Dauntless born joins a different faction, the faction they join does not first accept them and treats them like outcasts for a while. When Tris joined Dauntless, at first the Dauntless members called her a stiff and ignored the fact that she is now Dauntless. If someone transfers to become factionless the factionless welcome them like a family and accepts their presents. When Edward joined Dauntless, he was number one in the competitions dominating the others. Others being so competitive he got stabbed in the eye causing him to be kicked out of the Dauntless faction. He eventually joined the factionless and became Evelyn's partner immediately, showing how the factionless welcome all and you are not judged by how people categorize
First, there are 4 main identities within the faction that are accepted there is one that is neglected and frowned upon, but they are the most intelligent of them all. Dauntless (brave), Erudite (smart), Abnegation (selfless), and Candor (honest). Identity in the real world at least in the states is you can be whoever you want to become. You are not controlled and thats how it should be. Even though we might have outbreaks and cause violence. They were more deaths probably in the factions than there was in real life because there probably tons of suicide just from dauntless trying to do inhuman like abilities, also erudite taking over the
.Once the divergent population were to be at a high enough number the truth of to why the factions were created would be revealed to the factions in an effort to take the divergent to the outside and help bring sanity to the outside world’s population.
Part of the book Tris figure out that the Erudite wants to overthrow Abnegation government and those who are Divergent will getting rid of. Even though some people are different and has different type of things, it doesn't mean the leaders have to force them
There were five different factions. The factions are Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Erudite (the intelligent), Amity (the peaceful), and Candor (the honest). These factions were created as a means to stop the wars going on between the people. They were believed to separate everyone so that they destroyed the evil desires that people had. Those who blamed aggression formed Amity. Those who blamed ignorance formed Erudite. Those who blamed deceitfulness formed Candor. Those who blamed selfishness formed Abnegation. Those who blamed cowardice formed Dauntless. There are also the factionless, these are the people who didn’t complete their initiation
The five factions with wider explanation to understand; first of all is the faction of Braves, protectors, soldiers, and police, for sure these characteristics are about Dauntless; the protagonist’s Beatrice and Tobias faction, “Dauntless provides us with protection from threats both within and without” (Roth, Divergent 43). They also “blamed cowardice” (Roth, Divergent 42). They are amazing, fearless, and free. Some people think they are crazy, but this madness makes them different. “They are pierced, tattooed, and black-clothed. Their primary purpose is to guard the fence that surrounds our city” (Roth, Divergent 7). There is a disorder happened inside the Dauntless faction by dividing it into two sections, the members have to choose whether
A faction is a group of people that are classified as having the same type of traits. The first faction is Dauntless which are the brave citizens. The second
Each of the main characters, including Tris, are represented by one of the five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless, and Erudite. Abnegation is the faction which symbolizes the selfless. They choose to forget themselves and only serve others. The
Welcome to the miniature world of Divergent. This is a smaller scale replica of the world of Divergent, insurgent, and allegiant (except the wall because time restraints). In this replica, I have recreated each of the factions, as well as the hub and a factionless area. The first thing I built was the Sears Tower, the hub in the Divergent world. This is where the children of the factions go to school. In the real world we can relate this to any other public school. This building is where the choosing ceremony took place and where Tris made the difficult decision of choosing between Dauntless and Abnegation. The hub was built to show how the faction system gets new recruits into each faction. Abnegation was the faction that worked in the government
As for Divergent, the society is divided into five factions which divides citizens through an aptitude test: Abnegation the selfless one, Candor the honest, Dauntless the brave, and Erudite the intelligent. When teenagers come to age, they are able to control their destiny by receiving options. Stay with the faction the one they were born into or go to the one that matches their personality by the aptitude test (Divergent). Trice takes her aptitude test and find out that she is a Divergent. Meaning that she has an aptitude toward more than one faction. The society believes the Divergents are the greatest threat, since they are unable to be controlled. Trice decides to leave the abnegation and join the dauntless, the brave ones, even without knowing where she belongs. If she did not choose one out of those five faction she would've been factionless. Meaning that if they do not fit in any of the five factions or gets kicked out of the factions that society has created in the city of Chicago (Divergent).
Living in the society, Tris ought to be obeying the law as she is part of it. But, when she finds out herself is a Divergent, she can sense that something is running off. There is a social norm that that the divergent is outskirt. And even the test administrator warns her never tell anyone her result shows as “Divergent” because this will create chaos. As mentioned, the society under Abnegation government is not just and fair, it even does not reach the view of Mockus by “recognizing of legal, moral and social norms that may regulate citizens’ behaviour”. Each faction is required to focus on the responsibility and they have different values, they do not agree to each other core virtues; therefore, one faction is not willing to communicate with the other faction. Although during the period of ruling, there is no war but it certainly builds up the disapproval from the Erudite faction to the moral norm and social norm which they think they should be the one ruling the society with the intelligence more than being a selfless. Also, the Erudite finds out that the Abnegation leader is actually not upholding the norms of selfless as he abused his own son which leading his child to turn away from the family. Consequently, the Erudite tries to create new social norms; however, they did not succeed. They should see the life as sacred and they should be following the Mayor Mockus footstep by acting to the new rules personally, instead of hiding behind and deceive people to do their work. Another reason that the Erudite plan is not successful because their inner demon creates too much violence and opposing voices.
Leaders are in charge of trainings, and teaching how people will improve their faction. Dauntless initiates have launched a war against each other, even with their friends, having a goal to be crueler to win. However, Tris realizes how far dauntless have begun to drift away from the original aims of bravery. On page 240, Four says, “leadership, the person who controls training sets the standard of dauntless behavior. Six years ago Max and the other leaders changed the training methods to make them more competitive and more brutal, stated that it was supposed to test people's strength. And that changed the priorities of dauntless as a whole.” As saw in the quote, people in the faction easily get influenced by the leaders they have. Dauntless was in the wrong place that bravery was calculated by how many fights you won, and how fearless people are. Bravery was not a question of just being strong and doing things that are dangerous. We can see that other previous leaders have also influenced Eric, who is the current leader of the dauntless. They trained him to become vicious, and now Eric trains the rest of people to be just like him. We can see that leaders in the faction can lead idea of the value in a whole different direction. Leaders in the faction system limit one’s ability to advance their values with their
In a futuristic world in Chicago, the civilzation was divided into five groups, the factions, based on their human virtues. Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Erudite and the Dauntless. Each of the people living in this futuristic world must choose a faction and commit to it as they reach their 16th age. The Abnegation, they’re the government and the public servants. They live a simple life, not selfish and dedicated to help those in need. Erudite, the intelligent ones. They commend intelligence and knowledge. Amity, they’re farmers. They’re kind and always happy. Candor they were honest and truthful. Lastly, the Dauntless, they were the police and protectors. They were amazing because of their braveness and fearlessness.
The reasoning behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I do think the factions are working toward a better society and a better world. The fact that everyone is loyal and true to their faction seems to work for Tris’s society. What does not work for Tris’s society is that the Divergents have to hide and are in danger.
The reason behind the creation of the factions was to create peace and order within the society. I believe that the factions are working because Tris’s society, the factions have held together the structure in her community. In Tris’s society, the fact that they do not have a lot of choices is not really making the society better. Something else that does not help, is that the divergents have to hide.
Do you think you learn at the same rate as your peers? Probably not, and that isn’t a bad thing. All schools are different, some big, some small, some in safe neighborhoods, some in dangerous. Do you think that affects the education that the students are receiving? It can, and it will if you don’t get the kind of education you need. Education is not equal throughout the country.
