Diversity Experience
Diversity is a popular topic in today’s business world, but the definition of the word varies vastly between organizations. Some definitions are one sentence where others are a paragraph long. To add to the confusion, employees have their own ideas about diversity when entering the workforce that may collaborate with or contradict the organization’s explanation. This paper will compare and contrast four definitions concerning diversity to highlight the similarities and differences of the word according to national and international organizations. Also, the author will explore diversity categories in regard to her own experiences in life.

Through corporate partners, volunteers, and advocates, United Way brings awareness to several social economic pitfalls and develops solutions to battle the issues and provide support to persons in need (United Way, n.d.a). United Way’s (n.d.b) definition of diversity is: di·ver·si·ty (d-vûrs-t, d-) n.: the quality of being different or unique at the individual or group level. This includes age; ethnicity; gender; gender identity; language differences; nationality; parental status; physical, mental and developmental abilities; race; religion; sexual orientation; skin color; socio-economic status; work and behavioral styles; the perspectives of each individual shaped by their nation, experiences and culture—and more. Even when people appear the same on the outside, they are different! (para. 3)
In short, United Way’s explanation of diversity is the unique qualities and traits of people make each person different in some way even if they were identical twins.

Diversity- recognises that all though people have thing in common they are also different in many ways. Diversity therefore consists of visible and non-visible factors which include personal characteristics such as backgrounds culture, by recognising and understanding our individual differences and embracing them we can create a productive environment in which everybody feels valued.
Diversity- celebrating differences and valuing everyone. By respecting visible and invisible differences everyone can feel valued for their contribution, beneficial for both the individual and the setting.

It means recognising and understanding individual’s differences and embracing them, to allow people feel more valued.
Diversity refers to the fact that we are all different. Even though people have many things in common diversity recognises that people also have a lot of differences. This can be differences in religion, age, gender, beliefs and many more things we come across in daily life.
Diversity means to value and respect the differences and individuality of people. This means to embrace the differences between people and to treat a person’s race, culture, religious beliefs, age, sexual orientation, gender, physical and mental characteristics etc. with respect.
Diversity- The concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect. It means understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. Diversity has many definitions but only one true meaning. This concept Analysis is dedicated to exploring the broadened sense of diversity through active concepts with respect to term usage, and current literature research to support the understanding and relevance of the term itself.
Diversity: the state of being diverse; variety. We all come from different backgrounds; there’s heritage, there’s race, there’s different political views, sexuality and many more countable things that make us diverse. Not one human is the same. Not in thought. Not in experiences. I come from a latin culture, I was born in Rio Grande, Zacatecas and raised in Nieves, Zacatecas. The culture is so rich and the festivities seem like endless parties; there’s always a reason to celebrate. When I moved to the Dallas, Texas, for a more financially stable life it was two different worlds. It was something to get used to. People automatically labeled me as “dumb” a “criminal” the next “drop out” just because of skin tone.
During the course of volunteering with various service organizations, I have been fortunate to observe diversity illustrated on several occasions. The majority of these service organizations assisted minority families, which afforded me the opportunity to observe and interact with several diverse cultures and try to understand the circumstances that befell them. These observations allowed me to reflect on my interpretation of diversity and thus define it for myself. Diversity for me means more than just the recognition of one’s uniqueness and our recognition of that uniqueness. It means treating everyone with respect and having the patience to understand the differences contained within each individual. These differences may be along racial, ethnic, gender, religious or cultural lines, to name a few, but they are differences nonetheless.
Diversity is really what makes a person different from another. How they grew up, how they look, the way they think, their culture, how much money they have, where they are from…it really encompasses anything that sets you apart from the person standing next to you. At least that’s the way I think of it. The funny thing about diversity is that at the heart of it, when it really comes down to it, it’s about people, and people are just people. Kids are kids, parents are parents, teenagers are teenagers, this is something my mother keeps telling me over and over. We all laugh and love, and we all hurt. Deep down, we are all really made the same…we are all human beings. But diversity is really what makes things interesting I guess, I mean
Diversity means a group of people who are different from other people to most people; however diversity isn’t a group of people because each and every one of us are unique through age, gender, races, ideas, imaginations, opinions, ethnics, religion, cultural beliefs, special talents, and a variety of other unique things.
Diversity is the complete range of differences and similarities that make each individual unique. According to a study conducted by Korn Ferry International, it classifies diversity into six buckets as below.
