Diversity Paper An organizations success depends on it workforce. A talented and diverse workforce lends the most opportunities for success within the organization. A diverse workforce will also impact the organizations individual human behavior. Human behavior is the collection of activities by human beings and culture, emotions, ethnicity, gender, age, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, occupation, skills and abilities, personality traits, and values. This paper will discuss the impact that race and ethnicity, age, gender, and sexual orientation have on an individual's behavior. Human behavior is impacted greatly by race and ethnicity. This stereotype has definitely faded in the modern business world, but the modern woman still unjustly needs to "prove" herself to be an equal to her male counterparts. Gender differences can be rather large in today's workforce. From different pay scales to fewer opportunities for advancement, women can often find themselves getting the "short end of the stick". Women also have the unfortunate chore of dealing with sexual harassment. According to the U.S. EEOC, of the 12,679 sexual harassment charges filed in the U.S. during the fiscal year of 2005, 85.7% were filed by women. (http://www.eeoc.gov/types/sexual_harassment.html) Everyday countless instances of sexual harassment go without charges being filed. Sexual orientation is defined as the direction of an individual's sexuality, often in relation to their own sex or gender. There are three basic categories of sexual orientation; bisexual (bi), heterosexual (straight), and homosexual (gay/lesbian). Public perception and knowledge regarding differences in sexual orientation are far behind perhaps every other demographic. The fight for gay and lesbian rights against discrimination is a relatively new fight. The term hate crime has arisen in lea of anger and discrimination against the gay and lesbian population.
