Diversity: Positive Or Negative Effects On The Community

Diversity teaches us to accept. I have lived in a very diverse community for much of my life. Highland Park consists of a lot of white people, but also there are a lot of Mexican immigrants. In the high school the races tend to separate themselves, but we also teach each other about our cultures and we learn a lot from each other. Many people have experienced diversity. Diversity will enhance life as it teaches you to live with different types of people and teaches you how to get along with different types of people. In a diverse community we learn to build relationships with different people and groups. Diversity can enhance our life as we can see how people who haven’t got what we have, have to live and how what we have, we should be proud of and appreciative.

Diversity helps cultures and traditions to loosen the grip on racism, discrimination and things like that.

Diversity has caused problems ever since the first Europeans landed in the West Indies and up in till present day. Every Meeting between different races, different cultures, and different skin colors has made people see diversity among each other.

Diversity must be created and maintained with in organizations. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impacts of diversity onto an organization in addition to explaining the legally mandated and stakeholder driven explanations for mandatory diversity.

Diversity extends beyond race or ethnicity, religion, culture or newcomer status to include factors such as geography, language, politics, gender, beliefs, sexual orientation, economic status, abilities, skills and interests.

Diversity is embedded in America’s DNA; this is best illustrated by the core message of our constitution. Though the founding fathers’ application of said document was woefully inadequate in terms of inclusion, and the United States has not always lived up to those grand ideas, we have steadily grown better at creating and inhabiting a more just and all-embracing society. Despite setbacks there is hope and progress. As diversity is the key issue of our, or any, time; we must continue seeking, promoting, and ensuring it progression. This is, in short, an imperative and enduring process.

Diversity in college campuses has increased, which has let people assume that racism decreased and acceptance expanded gradually, however minorities still face prejudice and discrimination. Harvard University presented a research where they gathered college students from 4 particular public universities and questioned them about the social behavior they have experienced or witnessed. In the contrary, they discovered that college students have encountered racist comments or negative facial expressions towards them from Caucasians. This has led to propositions for instance, improving social conduct between children in school, more gratification in regard of one’s culture and positive outlook toward the culture of others because America’s obsession with race and racial attitudes continues to affect individuals emotionally. It is urgent to spread diversity at a younger stage of life, for upcoming children that are starting school. The need of role models around the nation is necessary and relevant to help multicultural education in the schools. Diversity has become significant since people all over the country are passionate about others knowing where they come from and making it possible of a more diverse society in the future.

Diversity lately is leaving a negative impact to us. Everytime, diversity is brought up the following topics: race, gender, and religion.

I believe that "Diversity" plays important roles in our lives. Without diversity, we cannot widen our field of view. Diversity helps us to open up our eyes and our world. From reading the essay "How diversity makes us smarter", written by Katherine W Phillips, I learned that there are some negative effects brought up by the social diversity where dialog of inclusion is advanced, but mostly diversity is something that has positive effect in our society and even individual. I could also reflect and make connection with my experience of moving from non diverse community to diverse community.

Diversity is known as having people who are different races or who have different cultures working in a group or organization. A diverse organization is one that values the difference in people. It is one that recognizes that people with different backgrounds, expertise, attitudes and experiences bring fresh ideas and perceptions to the organization.

Diversity; America thrives in it. You could call us the most diverse country with all the cultures, religions and variations of races. Our population will be stepping into a crucial stage with our generations aging into record numbers thanks to modern medicine. Living longer and having less children is a recipe for an older population. Other counties are also heading towards this inexperienced phase in human history.

The population growth from 2000 to 2010 shows the United States’ changing racial and ethnic diversity. In the last decade, there has been a significant modification in relation to the Hispanic community. A vast amount of data in regard of the growth of the total population came from an increase in those who claimed their ethnicity as Hispanic or Latino: the growth rate showed more than four times the growth rate of the total population (43 %, compared to only 9.7 %). These facts clearly show the growing importance of Hispanics, who are becoming an increasingly crucial part of the United States; the labeled ‘minority group’ is extremely incorrect if we consider the growth percentage during the last decade, and the future data is not likely to sustain this label anymore.

diversity impact on workplace in positive and negative also. Effective communication is necessary for any business ,we can not company our message effectively without effective communication. In diverse workforce people have different languages. So that they fail in communicational issues .

We live in a society where people come from different countries, they belong to different cultural, religion, ethnic groups, and races. All these factors come together and contributes to differences that make us unique from each other. Hence, a multicultural country with huge diversity. This reflection journal will cover what “human race” is and what role it plays in ones’ personal life and in a nursing profession. Moreover, what bias, assumptions and judgements are, and how to avoid them. Lastly, what caring is and what role does it play in nursing.
