This summer I was challenged to take on a volunteer opportunity at a facility with children to learn about and experience encounters on diversity. I started volunteering with Mrs. Rodriguez at her home daycare center “Severina Rodriguez Family Home Day Care” on May 2, 2015. This institution’s mission is “Where your Child is our Priority.” I originally picked this daycare center because when I was a toddler I was a part of this institution. I wanted to give back to those who took care of me when my parents could not. This home daycare is located in Hialeah, a primarily Hispanic portion of Miami. Since the majority of the inhabitants of Hialeah are Hispanic the demographics of the home daycare was primarily Hispanic. Other races that were represented …show more content…
Some elements of Global Perspective were expressed throughout my experience at this location. I saw how cross cultural awareness was expressed through morning videos that included different ways of saying hello. The daycare filled with several multicultural children represented perspective consciousness and how they would learn from each other. Mrs. Rodriguez makes an effort to keep all the students cultures alive and represented, she celebrates each students religious holidays and regular holidays. She teaches the student about each holiday and students complete activities that are relevant to each holiday. One child has autism and Mrs. Rodriguez the caretaker, had training on how to confront certain situations and work collectively to help her learn as well as others learn from her. Similar to Avery’s situation she is slowly learning from watching her friends at daycare pronounce words. The child with autism mimics the actions that other children do. The other children learn from her though her positive attitude and love for sounds. Together they make a beautiful orchestra filled with different instruments and put on a show for the parents at pick up time. The children seemed to play with each other and their races did not come in between their

The first artifact I have attached for Standard Four: Diversity is a diversity project completed during the spring of 2015 for ED444 Methods and Materials for Teaching Social Studies and ED447 Instructional Technology. This project consists of different resources to use when teaching Kindergarten Social Studies Standard Three. This standard requires students to describe how rules offer safety at home, school, and in the community. This diversity project demonstrates activities that aid in individual experiences.
The concept of diversity is one that individuals may not think of when they think of nursing. Diversity is a major component to nursing and the care that is provided to patients. In this concept analysis, antecedent, attributes and consequences of diversity are identified. The following antecedents are: race, social economy, knowledge, gender, and education level. The attributes of diversity are individual, variety, perception, difference and civilization. The consequences of diversity are as follows; acceptance, decision making, cultural competency qualifications, respect, degrading, trusts
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon the diverse experiences that I have had in my personal and professional life. Fortunately, I have had a large mix of diverse friends and experiences in my life. This paper will discuss those diversities as well as the plan to expand on my current knowledge.
It was not always ideal having a stranger living in our home for a year at a time, but both Veronica and Pia have made us more open to interacting with others from different backgrounds. Furthermore, my family itself has a diverse makeup. Specifically, my aunt and uncle adopted my cousin, Jackson, from Haiti 4 years ago. It truly is inspirational to see his transformation from a malnourished child to a personality-filled and intelligent student.
Diversity means everything to me and may to some others as well. it is so important to me to have diversity and for people to be diverse also. when I searched for colleges, I looked for them to have diversity. many people come from different places with different backgrounds and reasons to attend college. diversity is especially important for colleges to have.
I was very excited when I saw this essay prompt because diversity is actually one of the main criteria that drew me into NC State. All throughout my schooling life, for as long as I can remember, I never attended any schools that were diverse. There was always one extremely predominant race or gender, and it’s something that truly disturbed me. I am excited to attend a college that is so diverse in many aspects, that I will be able to benefit from in multiple different ways. I will be able to learn and understand new perspectives which will help me gain an open mind and heart to be able to accept different kinds of people. I will be able to familiarize myself with different backgrounds and cultures, because I am so accustomed to my own, I
“It is time for parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty and there is strength.” ― Maya Angelou.

It is easy to say that the population of this country does not look the same as it once did back in the past. We have more minorities as a whole and it is changing the culture of this country. This is occurring because of mixed raced spouses and children and more immigrants from a greater variety of places than before. There has also been a major change in the average age of people living in this country. This can be because of the improvement of medicine and health care.
While diversity is often a term used to refer specifically to cultural differences, diversity applies to all the qualities that make people different. From a management perspective, the key to diversity is to understand how different types of diversity and different demographic characteristics can impact human behavior. The four types of diversity that will be examined are: occupation, differences in skills and abilities, personality traits, and value and attitudes. For each type of diversity, the impact on individual behavior will be described.
As a child, growing up in a low income household has made me humble and attentive to other’s situations. Similarly, my South Asian family has instilled a strong nature to serve others, which is the reason I have been involved in service learning activities throughout my undergraduate career, such as LIFT – Chicago and Refugee One. Even post-graduation, my work at Wekaw caters to urban underserved populations. In graduate school, I wish to continue this involvement in campus organizations which enforce diversity inclusion, whether it is joining a volunteering club aiding community populations or conducting research with immigrants. This is one aspect of diversity I can contribute to Rosalind Franklin University, and is also why my professional goal is to work in a community hospital serving diverse populations.
U.S. schools and colleges vary from numerous points of view. Some are open, others are independently employed individual; some are huge urban colleges, some are two-yr. group universities, others little rustic grounds. Some offer alumna and expert political stage, others point of convergence basically on undergrad instruction. Each of our more than 3, 000 schools and colleges has its particular and dissimilar mission. This aggregate differing qualities around organizations is one of the extraordinary strength of America's higher instruction framework, and has helped make it the best in the people. Protecting that assorted qualities is key on the off chance that we plan to serve the needs of our just social order.
Diversity can be shown through many different aspects such as ethnicity, environments we were raised or things we have experienced. For me, I bring diversity through experiences with the various people that I have worked with. Every summer of middle school and high school I would go on mission trips with my youth group. For these trips instead of going to other countries like a lot of people do, we would go to various cities in the United States to help the people there. My youth group has gone to cities like Newark, Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, and Nashville. In these cities, we worked with the boys and girls club, assisted in the homeless shelters, worked at the food banks and fixed up homes for the people that needed it in those areas.
Diversity in classrooms can open student’s minds to all the world has to offer. At times diversity and understanding of culture, deviant experiences and perspectives can be difficult to fulfill, but with appropriate strategies and resources, it can lead students gaining a high level of respect for those unlike them, preferably than a judgmental and prejudiced view.
