Living in a country where it was founded by immigrants, diversity is everywhere you go especially in the workplace. There are many types of diversity; ethnicity, gender, religion and age just to name a few. Working in a diverse organization it can give you a taste of the real world, and what you will deal with wherever you go. There is so much diversity in the world today so it is a benefit to experience it in the workplace as well. You are given the chance to learn so many things from different cultures, why wouldn't you want to work in a diverse organization?
Ethnicity
America is known as the land of the free where every immigrant wants to come to make a life for themselves and their family. An ethnically diverse

Once again I believe that working with a gay person can be a benefit to you. It can educate you on their lifestyle and the things that they have to deal with on an everyday basis. You should not look down upon or avoid a person with a different sexual orientation than yourself. They are still people and they should be treated just the same as anyone else, what?s the difference if they chose to be attracted to the same sex. Personally, I have not had the opportunity to work closely with a gay person. However, I do have friends that have chosen that lifestyle and I respect them the same and any other friend. ?A study conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which polls Fortune 500 companies on their hiring and human-resource practices, reported a rise in companies that include sexual orientation as part of their anti-discrimination policies -- from 17 companies in 2002 to 59 in 2004? (Velez, 2004). This statistic shows that even thought the Civil Rights Act doesn?t include sexual orientation, some companies have made policies to include it and the numbers have risen greatly within those two years.
Age
Individuals are starting to worker very young in today?s society. This has its benefits. Young workers are given the opportunity to gain experience from their co-workers that have been working for 20 years or more. If an individual was to start working at a young age, then they can develop

Diversity can be shown through many different aspects such as ethnicity, environments we were raised or things we have experienced. For me, I bring diversity through experiences with the various people that I have worked with. Every summer of middle school and high school I would go on mission trips with my youth group. For these trips instead of going to other countries like a lot of people do, we would go to various cities in the United States to help the people there. My youth group has gone to cities like Newark, Atlanta, Cleveland, Detroit, and Nashville. In these cities, we worked with the boys and girls club, assisted in the homeless shelters, worked at the food banks and fixed up homes for the people that needed it in those areas.
Workplace diversity is when there is diverse culture of individuals in the workplace. It is when there is a value placed on the variety of ideas, race, ethnicities, religion, gender, sexuality and orientation, which is flourishing in an environment. Depending on your employer and workplace, workplace diversity can vary based off several different factors. Usually, there is a preferential standpoint taken on the matter and it can be either display a high or a low context culture of diversity. According to Mason (2013) Workforce diversity has been described as “a double-edged sword; it has the potential for positive and negative outcomes” (p.659). Workplace diversity is important in a business setting because it carries forward a combination of different types of people to work together in unity, encourages uniqueness, innovative, creative approaches, and supports interesting divergent ideas to accomplish tasks or goals.
From Hollywood to the the social sector, diversity, rather the lack thereof, has been a topic of conversation. Although many organizations have begun to advocate for diversity, more work must be done. Across the social sector, women and people of color remain severely underrepresented in leadership positions. Organizations must become intentional about creating a diverse workforce and implementing inclusive policies that foster positive work environments. When employees feel represented and included they are happier and more likely to contribute to fulfilling the organization's mission.
In the article Diversity in the Workplace, written by Kenneth Jost published on October 10th 1997, reads about the changes job settings face because diversity is being encouraged. The statistics, in this article, prove that there was more white males employed than other genders and races, but this issue is decreasing over the years because of diversity awareness. Later, the article spoke about affirmative action, and diversity training being created to help minorities receive equal employment opportunities. Also, affirmative action was created to help minorities with college and university admissions. The visible change lead white males to feel threatened that their jobs were being taken. 56 percent of white males believed these programs that
The workplace can be a very interesting place for backgrounds and culture to intertwined. Many times, people choose to adhere to a general avoidance of certain topics to maintain a peaceful work environment. The diversity which exists in the United States is so vast, one cannot assume of another’s race or culture merely based on outward appearances. The following will discuss an example of racial assumptions in the workplace and the actions taken by management to address the situation. Situation The environment in which I work is a very typical office environment.
The term diversity explains the way which people differ from one another. Such differences affect the way people interact in the workplace. Cultural diversity is nothing but it means the representation, in one social system of people with distinctly different group affiliations of cultural significance. The different talents and their commitment to work are important to succeed. In diversity sex, gender, like Trans gender is also a diversity many transgender people are lock up, making it difficult to get an accurate population count in the world. A 90% of transgender workers were mistreating and harassment in the work place. Moreover, facts shows that 16% to 40% sexual disable people face harassment in the workplaces and about 85% of the mistreated people in the workplaces
“Demographics of the US population have changed dramatically in the last three decades. These changes directly impact the healthcare industry in regard to the patients we serve and our workforce” (Borkowski, 2012). In fact, Voutsas (2011) argues that the U.S workforce is the most demographically heterogeneous workforce in the world and he believes that this is due to major changes and diversity .Borkowski (2012) also states that the significant changes in the US populations has been seen greatly in regards to gender, age ,and race and ethnicity .
Assignment Number or Topic Assignment 1 Practices in hiring for diversity in the workplace have been a topic of discussion for several years. While the fire service has not been without its own debate on the subject, there are some compelling reasons why diversity in the fire service is both important and beneficial. Diversity in the workplace has been described as “the extent to which the workplace is composed of individuals who are discernibly different. Discernible differences are typically those that can be seen or heard, such as a person’s hair, or skin color; or a noticeable accent” (Buckman, 2006, pp. 149-150).
This research paper addresses the importance of diversity training in the workplace. Having realized how pertinent workplace discrimination is globally, this paper will give a broad look into the various ways that diversity is displayed in the workplace. The diversity issues involving gender, sexuality, race, age, culture and religion will be explored,
This paper is aimed at providing a framework for discussion of diversity and how it pairs with demographic characteristics. It is divided into four parts. Part I represents diversity in the workforce, which reflects the rational of organizations and how they handle diversity in the occupations of their workers. Parts II characterize diversity and age, as it responds to the fact that older people have the skill set to keep them working well past retirement age. Part III denotes religion, where as more employers are beginning to recognize the need to allow employees to take time to pray. Part IV symbolizes the personality traits in diversity and how “different” is not always viewed as wrong but can be an incentive to other
As I have been designated as the Project Leader/Manager of the new information technology system that is currently being developed, it is my duty to bring together the partner firms as to support and stimulate the swift and thorough development of this new technology. Due to the high level of expertise of this German firm, we have selected them to partner with us as we begin the development process. Embracing diversity in the workplace is key to a healthy organization. More so today than ever, agencies employ individuals with many different cultural, religious, sexual, and geographical backgrounds. By promoting and encouraging individuality, the organization can embrace these backgrounds and promote a sense of value. This tactic promotes a healthy workplace, not in the traditional sense of physical health, but rather in physiological health. (Day, Kelloway & Hurrell, 2014)
Albert Einstein once said, “We cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.” In other words, we need different ideas to come to an optimal solution. Diversity encompasses a variety of differences between people in this world. Each individual is classified to be different from one another whether it is from age, gender, race, personality, education, background, experiences, and more. Varying viewpoints provides a team with a larger pool of ideas to work with and filter out what works for them. Modern day businesses that are striving towards success through innovation tend to lean teams building a diverse team. A variety of experiences and backgrounds creates a channel of people who can provide innovated ideas that may have never been thought of. In this paper, I argue that diversity promotes a higher potential of success for a company.
John F. Kennedy once said " If we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity."
