Since the inception of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) role in the 1960s, NPs have thrived in the delivery of primary healthcare and nurse case management. Despite patient satisfaction with NPs ' style of care, nurses have been critical of NPs, while physicians have been threatened by NP encroachment on MD practice. Balancing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment with caring defines NPs ' success as primary care providers. Understand the role and Scope of Practice of NPs is sometimes difficult for some to understand. The purpose of this paper is to define the role and history of NP, compare and contrast licensure versus certifications, understand NP Scope Of Practice and Standards of Care, discuss how the State Practice Acts regulate FNP practice, discuss credentialing and privileging, and differentiate between legislative and regulatory processes.

The healthcare system in America, is a system that the nation is working hard to improve and perfect. This means the rules and regulations in healthcare continue to change, and often times change rapidly. In the years to come, nurse practitioners (NPs) are predicted to hold a prominent role as healthcare providers. Currently, there are many rules and regulations that prevent NPs from practicing to the full extent of their educations. While the NP certification is standardized nationwide, regulations vary from state to state and many NP are still fighting to be recognized as highly qualified care providers. These current issues make uniting the voices of NPs everywhere important for the progression of the NP career.

For my Clinical experience, I was referred to one of community clinics run by nurse practitioners - yes, NPs- in Suffolk County in Long Island by my coworker. It is called “Nightingale Preventative Care.” I am working in the ER and at first, I thought this clinic would be a type of urgent care office which is a similar setting to the ER. I was totally wrong. For the past two weeks, this place has surprised me many ways and I learned about what the community clinic is alike to its neighbors. Patients can be seen by NPs by the appointment. However, it is located inside of K-mart and has many walk-in patients as well. Many patients who come to visit for their check-up have no medical insurance. Every Wednesday, a representative from Fidelis Care insurance company comes and provides information about Medicaid and Medicare service the company has. I really like to sit down with patients and assess about their medical histories and family histories which I cannot do often in the ER. I had a patient who was Hepatitis A Ab, Total positive Abnormal first day I work at the clinic. He didn’t understand what the test result meant and neither did I. I printed out an article from National Library of Medicine and went over with him. Patient’s education in the ER rarely happens from nurses. I felt great to listen what patients tried to lose their weight or quit smoking. I like to continue on developing skills on patient’s education and preventative care measure for patients.

My educational goal is to be accepted to an accredited family nurse practitioner program that is recognized locally and nationally. I am looking to advance my clinical skill and knowledge to the level of advanced practice. I want to be on the forefront as healthcare continues to revolutionize.

There is a crucial need for Nurse Practitioners, especially in an area of shortage such as in the state of Missouri. The trending search for NP’s is at an all-time high. Although the need is great, there continues to be restrictions on NP’s License in regards to practicing. Many of the restrictions make it hard to practice at one’s full capability. My dreams of becoming a Nurse Practitioner still gives me hope with fears at time. Continuing to network in order to help with marketing my skills and resume for a position after school appears to be mandatory.

My name is Leonardo Mastache, of Cuban origins, and I have been a nurse for exactly ten years. Most of my work have been in medical surgical and telemetry. About eight years ago I relocated from the crowded city of Miami to Naples, Florida, which I find to be a pleasant place to live in. Here I work at Naples Community Hospital (NCH), and recently transferred to an oncology unit to gain some understanding of how to work with patients that have been diagnosed with different types of cancer.

I am writing to express my interest in admittance to the South University Family Nurse Practitioner program for fall of 2016. This program came highly recommended to me by a professional colleague who is currently precepting students enrolled in this program. I have been a registered nurse for eleven years and have recently received my bachelor’s degree in nursing from Daytona State College _______. I have earned an extensive amount of experience in several different fields of nursing such as, emergency medicine, intensive care, pediatrics, woman’s health, and mental health. Family Nurse Practitioners(FNPs) are Registered Nurses who serve as a primary healthcare provider and or specialty healthcare providers under a physician. They function much like a family practice physician, wherein they work with patients throughout their lives, conduct examinations, prescribe medicine, and diagnose illnesses. Unlike a Registered Nurse, however a Family Nurse Practitioner can serve as a patient’s primary healthcare provider and can run their own practices. A Family Nurse Practitioner provides a different healthcare path for patients and further job and education opportunities for Nurses. Ever since I began nursing school in 2012 at the University of Texas At El Paso Texas, I dreamt of furthering my education to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. During my clinical rotations I received many exposures that showed me insight into the invaluable job Nurse Practitioners offered to their patients.
