Yes, juveniles deserve life sentences in jail if they decide to commit a violent crime. This is because there is no effective deterrent to force them to think twice. Over the course of time, this has resulted in even more juveniles being arrested for these activities. Evidence of this can be seen with figures provided by the Center for Disease Control. ("Youth Violence," 2010)
They found that these offenders are having an impact on the criminal justice system (with their activities becoming more diabolical in nature). According to the CDC, there a number of pieces of data to highlight the severity of the problem include:
Homicide is the second leading cause of death for 10 to 24 year olds. Out of this number nearly 85% of these crimes are committed with a gun.
31.5% of students claim they have been in a fight on school grounds at least one time in the past 12 month.
15.1% stating that they have been bullied at least 12 times in the last year on school property.
7.7% saying they have been threatened with a gun at least one time in the last 12 months.
5.0% claiming that they have not went to school one or more days in the past month. This is because they did not feel safe. ("Youth Violence," 2010)
These statistics are troubling, as this is showing how juveniles are exposed to tremendous amounts of fear and intimidation. This is problematic, as most individuals who are affected by these incidents…
