Sports are something that everyone in the world, regardless of age, sex, or nationality, can enjoy. Whether it's a child playing in his first t-ball game or a professional athlete swimming in the Olympics and everyone in between, sports can connect almost everyone. Fan support and overall devotion for athletic competition has raised professional athletes to superstars and national icons; Super Bowl Sunday is a national holiday to some, and sports are one of the largest moneymakers in the economy.
Viewer experience of a Cleveland Browns game and Smithville Smithies game is very different. When you walk out of the dimly lit hallway and into the stadium at First Energy, the sun is blinding. The grass field looks so good that it could be easily mistaken as artificial turf. There are over 70,000 fans on any given Sunday. While looking around the stadium you can see orange and brown colors everywhere of fans representing the home team. Occasionally you can see different colors scattered amongst the Brown’s colors of the fans representing the other team. Noise from the crowd is so loud, it makes it hard to hear people sitting in the seat beside you. When the browns are announced they ran out of the tunnel and the whole crowd stands up to cheer. Many fans at the browns game fans are drunk, and yell at the other team’s fans. After the browns run onto the field they start warming up. Quarterbacks start passing the ball to each other, the centers are snapping, and the punters are
The last type of fan is a fair-weather fan. This is the least liked fan and these fans irritate many people. Fair-weather fans will like one team one year and switch their favorite team the next year because of recent success by the other team. These people are not truly sports fans, and will just root for who is popular or whoever their peers like so they can fit in. Fair-weather fans root for teams that they do not follow because of excitement revolving around a team or because there are some big names on the team that they have actually heard of. These people will like a team, but will not follow them very closely and may only attend one or two sporting events a year at the most. Fair-weather fans will know the names of the star people on their team, but will not know the majority of their favorite team. Usually they will not have much merchandise with their favorite team on it either because they switch teams so much that they do not have tome to accumulate many goods with their team on them.
However, soccer sometimes has negative impacts on individuals taking part in the game as spectators or players. Soccer makes a number of individuals intolerant and this intolerance could cause disturbances to other participants in the game. Hooliganism is one of the most popular form of intolerance in the game of soccer where fans from the opposing sides in most instances get into physical confrontations resulting in injuries and in worse cases, deaths. An example was when Egypt faced Algeria in an African Nations Cup tournament where Algerian fans got down into the pitch and engaged the Egyptian fans in a physical fight which left several people dead. These physical fights are not only limited to the fans but the soccer players as well. Many instances have been reported of players getting into physical confrontations with the members of the opposing team (Huggins, 2007). This has resulted in the development of more stringent rules to reduce such incidences. This is evidence of how the popular culture that is soccer elicits emotions among the participant of the game.
Sports of old were merely competitive activities rooted in heroism and romanticism. Sports activities today, however, have no such innocence or simplicity. Currently in America, the activities that make up our sports culture is not only the competitive events themselves but the processes and issues that underlie and surround them. Entwined in our sports culture is the giant business of mass broadcasting. Indeed, sports and the media go hand in hand like peanut butter and jelly, like Mickey and Minnie, Darth Vader and Luke. They are intertwined and depend on each other to continue to grow. Sports media includes television, radio, magazines, newspapers, books, films, and, now, most importantly, social media devices provided by the
Throughout the years, sporting events has been a place for fans to forget about what is going on in their life, take a break from the real world, and focus on the game. Often, many fans don't just watch and keep up with sports solely because of the type of sport, but also to keep up with their favorite athletes and teams. However, the aggressive and violent nature of the sports can often be carried over from the field to real life, impacting not only the athlete and the team, but also the fans.
Soccer is like a religion in many countries all over the world and it means everything to its fans. Where im from, Argentina, soccer is bigger than anything. Alot of people take soccer even more serious than their jobs. Sometimes a little to serious. There has been a lot of soccer related accidents in Argentina and many other parts of the world. Many of the accidents occur during games in the stands. Soccer rivalries are very big in Argentina. Sometimes they seperate towns. Just like gangs here in United States, soccer fans fight for respect and hate towards the other team, a lot of times ending in deaths. Other incidents occur off the field. A good example to show how serious fans take the game, is the incident that occur after a World Cup, when a colombian player scored an own goal during an important game, and he was assasinated a few days later. Things like that usually never happen here in the United States. Not to say that fans are no passionate about football, but its a different type of passion.
Fans attend sporting events to escape politics. However, players are booing at kneeling NFL players are clearly disliking the kneeling, according to salon.com. Nytimes.com states that fans stand up and boo when players kneel during the anthem. Fans come to get away from politics, not towards it. The fans spend good money to come see these games, and they do not want to see players being disrespectful. People in the crowds are even making signs that are telling players to get off the field if they can’t stand during the anthem, while others are still
To start things off, Football is known to be a popular American sport, As Nina Burleigh states in her essay “Would Football without Concussions Still Be Football?” That “Professional football is currently the most popular spectator sport in the United States” (610). Burleigh also mentioned “Currently the super bowl is the most watched sporting event in the United States, and it is also seen by millions of people around the world” (610). This goes to show you that Men, kids and even women enjoy watching the game whether its attending a little league football game every Saturday, A high school game every Friday or watching the NFL every Sunday on ESPN. “Such is the glory and delirium of American football – invigorating autumn air, the crack of a beer at the tailgate, the snuggling team logo sweat shirts” (Burleigh 611). Burleigh describes a day of feeling relaxed in which almost every American can enjoy while watching or attending a
In most of the USA, schools would offer a variety of sports programs to their students in order for them to have a chance at becoming an athlete and competing against other schools. On the other hand, there are schools in various other countries that do not give their students any opportunities for school athletics. In a nourishing school environment, we all know that academics and in-class abilities count first when it comes to learning. In this world we live in people argue that after school sports might be the reason for poor academic performances and dropout rates in sports-featured schools.
"I went to a fight the other night and a hockey game broke out." Rodney Dangerfield. Ever since the start to the game of hockey, violence has always played a role in the sport. While that role both contributing positive and negative aspects to the game, violence has taken its toll on not only the players but the fans as well. As violence in hockey is as many fans say part of the game and what makes “hockey” hockey, the negative outcomes overweigh the positive. From fights to brawls, slashes to high sticks, boarding to head contact the violence surrounds the entire game. As fans cheer and rant at their full potential when a fight breaks out during a hockey
Protesting an opinion should not be done at the expense of a celebration of a country’s unity. The NHL should continue to discourage anthem protests as demonstrated by J.T. Brown, a Tampa Bay Lightning player who raised his hand during the national anthem October 8th, 2017. Anthem protests are not only disrespectful towards veterans who fought for our freedom, but protesting in an arena is an inappropriate venue to express your personal opinion when all ages internationally are watching. As a team, you should all decide together whether or not you are going to participate as a collective group in a protest because it can create conflict within the team. The national anthem is one of many symbols which remind us of the millions of soldiers who died for our freedom. When hockey players such as J.T Brown use this time
The next factor involved in attending a sporting event is the overall atmosphere which to me is always the best at a college sporting event. While controversial, the Kansas State vs. Kansas game is notorious for a certain chant when the game rolls into Manhattan. Typically, towards the end of the second half of the game the song Sandstorm by Darude is played and a chant of “F*ck KU” rings out from the Kansas State student section. As I have many friends that go to school at K-State this chant is something all the students look forward to as I have even personally heard the chant at football games. While not respectful and flat out wrong, this chant is something that I consider a part of the rivalry. Some may have a very different view on this, but I believe things could be much
Watching a professional sports game at home and actually being at the stadium and watching it in person, are two very different things. Even though it is the same game, there are many differences in how the fan sees it. A few key contrasts are where the seats are, the atmosphere in the stadium, and the cost of being there. Although most fans would rather experience the game in person, that might not be the best choice.
Football has been an attractive sport around the world. Through this sport, many inhabitants have denominated themselves as fans of a particular football team. These people support the players in each match they have. Every football team has a group of fans that go to the stadium to encourage them in the game, but also they attend there to enjoy the show. Nevertheless, not all the fans go to see the matches since there are some people who belong to groups called hooligans. Those groups are highly violent, and they do not mind killing other people to defend their team. Consequently, citizens who belong to these violent groups should not be able to come back to the stadiums because hooligans do not benefit the image of football, do not understand the meaning of football, and do not respect the diversity of preferences.
