We call ourselves Christ followers. Do we look like Jesus? Do we talk like Jesus? Are we scared to do and say the things Jesus would say? If I can be honest, I am! I can let my selfishness and pride get in the way. And its easy to beat myself up.
I pray that we would be bold. That we would be courageous. I pray that we would not follow the crowd and look like our neighbor, but step out and be different. I pray we would step out and say the things Jesus would say and do the things Jesus would do. But there is a cost. Are we willing to follow Christ if that meant losing our reputation? Job? Family? Friends? Our life? We covet those things and we cling to them. But Jesus said, "take up your cross and follow me." Die to self.
Once they stopped praying daily and stopped valuing the commandments, they were so much more susceptible to temptation and were swept off course quickly towards wickedness. We need to build our foundations upon Christ and do the small things that keep us close to him. Joseph Smith taught that “the devil has no power as only as we permit him,” and we learn from this that Satan will use whatever backdoor we give him to get into our minds and actions. I believe that we can learn from this that whatever things we place above God eventually become our God and we need to prioritize Him always. Helaman 5: 12 summarizes this principle as Nephi teaches his sons, “remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty whirlwinds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are build, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if a men build they cannot fall.” We need to have our foundation built upon Christ so that we cannot
That we continue to pray and reach out to those who are different. That we continue to go beyond religious reconciliation, and we take the umbrella and open it more widely. The umbrella of repentance. Because there can be no reconciliation without repentance. Reconciliation without repentance is fake, but reconciliation with repentance is beautiful gospel
Believers have been unified in salvation by grace and are called to live like Christ.
We are learning to put on humility, kindness, graciousness, mercifulness, forgiveness, and love to a greater degree. We bear witness to the light coming out of Zion and as early Church theologian noted: “The light of God’s love in Christ is dawning everywhere, thus ending the reign of darkness, sin, and hatred
Jesus wants us to follow in his footsteps by assisting people we might have never even talked to, and creating a chain reaction of good deeds. People on the fringe of society are never seen for who they really are and they have so much potential for this life if people listened and accepted
Rather than doing to others what they have done to us or giving them what they may deserve, we are to treat them the way we want them to treat us. This will strengthen the neighboring ministries while placing faith back into those disbelievers.
I must also pray before, during, and after each opportunity I have to lead others to Jesus and the
5. What can we as a group (or BCC as a church) do to be more humble like Jesus? How would
As Christians we are trying to re-invent our beliefs, faith and righteous living to fit in the modern world. We are trying to move with the tide, follow trends and changes. We are incorporating what is in the world into Christianity. Christians are trying to hold on to what God expects us to do and living righteously but it is getting harder as the world is changing.
truth above makes us enemies of society that’s why state churches love and practice lies! But we are not of the world, we have been chosen out of the world. Therefore, every truth our Lord reveals to us and teaches us, we will lay down our lives to proclaim it! Even so, come Lord Jesus!
In a society filled with chaos, hate, and anger, it is time that we, Ateneans, portray being men and women for others to show love like Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ showed the importance of sacrifice, and in this day and age, we must be willing to sacrifice for the greater good - a cause that is bigger than ourselves. After all, Christ did not come to be served but to serve. Jesus Christ gave his life for taking a stand for justice against the oppressive authorities (Coyle). Solidarity with the poor and the oppressed is based on our faith in God, who is revealed in Jesus Christ (Gutierrez). On the other hand, solidarity in following Christ means struggle to change the systems that cause spiritual and physical death in this world. We find in Jesus’
“We would like to see another Jesus Movement birthed for a new generation and believing supernaturally that the presence of God would move across this nation and draw people to Him. We believe prayer is a really important part of that.”
Everyone has people that they admire and perhaps if we ask ourselves whether or not they would do a certain thing, we wouldn’t do it. Of course, Jesus is our greatest example; therefore, everyone should ask before doing anything that is doubtful, “What would Jesus do?” (I Peter 2:21)
It should be noted that the world is not the only place where this type of envy/jealousy takes place. It even takes place in the church. At this point it again needs to be stated that in the Church of Christ Our Lord there are two categories of Christians - (1) Born Again Christians (2) professing Christians.
