How are the main characters in a play constructed to represent the text’s underlying values and attitudes?
Cavalier in Buckskin, a book about George Armstrong Custer’s life up until his death on June 25, 1876 at the Battle of Little Bighorn, taught me many things about how Custer lived and acted. It also taught me a lot about Custers personality in battle which made me come to the conclusion that he was a very confident man in what he did and how he fought his battles which in turn possibly could have ended his life because overconfidence can be deadly.

While children are growing up in America, they are told several tales of America’s establishment and history. However, these stories are generally not told as they actually happened. An instance of this is the story of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is explained as this elaborate ceremony where the Pilgrims and Indians gathered in harmony at this large harvest in celebration of their coming together. According to the primary document of William Bradford’s journal, Thanksgiving didn’t pan out quite as it is explained to Americans today. In the film, The Addams Family Values, the Addams children take part in a traditional, yet misconceived celebration of the first Thanksgiving. This
While Doc was still in Fort Griffin with Kate, he found himself in an altercation with a man named Ed Bailey. Bailey was purposefully agitating Holliday during a card game, which would end with Bailey pulling a gun on Holliday. Doc, in self defense (according to some), pulled a knife and slashed Bailey across the stomach, cause blood the spill and Bailey to fall across the table (This altercation can be seen in the movie Tombstone, about 12 minutes into the movie). Knowing it was of good reason, Holliday did not run, and would later be arrested. This caused a group of people to form to try and get revenge on Holliday, something Kate saw coming. Fearing for Doc's life, and thinking quickly, Kate went to the hotel where Holliday was being held
Truman Capote’s story A Christmas Memory, is about Capote’s childhood memory of a particular holiday season and how he enjoyed that moment in time with a special friend. One holiday celebration which my family places significant effort into preparing for is Christmas. The role both of my parents play during this holiday is particularly interesting to me because my mom comes from a Muslim background. She converted to Catholicism in order to marry my dad and, with that, came the many customs and rituals she is currently expected to carry on during the holidays. Di Leonardo’s “The female world of cards and holidays” discusses ‘kin work’ as the maintenance of familiar relations through bringing households together during holidays, sending cards, presents and etc. This process which often contributes to strengthening familial ties is perceived to be women’s work, which I believe is the case in my own family. Despite my dad growing up in such close proximity to our Christmas traditions, it is my mom who places the most amount of effort into facilitating family visits, preserving our rituals and connecting with distant kin.
