Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization helping people in countries of the greatest need. Usually focusing on assisting underdeveloped countries, they deliver emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or suffer exclusion from health care. This goal is astonishing, since numerous countries are dealing with devastation due to war or overall lack of resources. Nevertheless, with the history and background of this organization, they are doing a phenomenal job at accomplishing it. Operating mostly on donations, the organization tries to garner attention by informing the public of what they do and why it is important in making their mission possible. …show more content…
Anyone can attest to aiding others overseas and in third-world countries. The copious amounts of substantial information only further relate to the application of the logos appeal. In addition to their use of logos, there is an abundance of information to support the credibility of Doctors Without Borders where they utilize an ethos approach. Publications by the doctors, demonstrate to the viewer not only are these doctors capable of providing aid to those in need, but they are also publishing information to promote awareness for their foundation. Under the “About Us” tab are links about the leadership of the organization. Moreover, the detailed information about the leaders and all the work they have done within, as well as outside of the organization, the credibility factor of this website skyrockets. Personal narratives of those that have received assistance from Doctors Without Borders, channel the reader’s ethics in a way to inspire them to donate. Alongside the lines of media, there are videos of the aid relief these doctors provide with real accounts of experiences in the field. While factors individually are fairly sound, combined, makes it harder to refute the morality of this organization. Doctors Without Borders has also won the Nobel Peace Prize for their selfless work. Attesting to the simplicity of this
Imagine being a soldier during the revolutionary war. There is no one to help you, and there is no doctors to save your life. Since the American Red Cross was founded, the organization has helped millions of people ranging from war to natural disasters.. The American Red Cross provides a range of services in the United States by giving emergency assistance, blood, disaster relief, and education. Also, the Red Cross feeds the volunteers, helps families contact each other, provides blood to disaster victims, and helps those affected by disaster to access other available resources. Their mission is empowering ordinary people to perform extraordinary
The World Health Organization (WHO) has created an agenda for 2030. Within this agenda there are seventeen sustainable developmental goals (SDG) that aim to transform our world. These goals are to be met through numerous different means, government policies, public change, non-government organizations (NGO) and a variety of other ways. NGO’s are a large way to help meet these goals and impact the world for the better. LRBT, an NGO that focuses on eye care for those who live in Pakistan, focuses on meeting the goal ensuring healthy lives and wellbeing for all at all ages (United nations SDG, reference). Ensuring eye care for the residents of Pakistan not only provides them with care they should be subject too always, but
St. Jude Children’s hospital was established in February of 1962 with the “sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research and treatment into catastrophic childhood diseases” (StJude.org). They have raised survival of childhood cancer from 20% to 80% since their opening through their research (Cancer.org). Even with an average of 7,800 patients a year and a 1.8 million daily operating cost, parents never pay anything for their child’s stay (StJude.org). The survival rate has raised and children are able to stay at no cost due to donations. Most of these donations come from people around the world that see St. Jude’s effective and strong advertisements. I will be analyzing three rhetoric’s ethos, logos, and pathos the hospital used to raise funds and make it effective.
It can’t be disputed that since its inception, the Red Cross has had a lasting impact on the overall well-being of American citizens, instilling confidence in them that if a disaster does strike in their lives, the Red Cross is there to ease the pain a bit. However, much like any other organization, the Red Cross has had its fair share of flaws and mishaps. A crucial mistake in the business world may result in a substantial loss of money or even a sentence to prison. Unfortunately for the Red Cross, everything they do and participate in deals with the lives of everyday individuals. As a result, if their jobs aren’t done correctly or mistakes are being made, it could put the lives of thousands at risk and therefore jeopardize their institution. Some may argue that in several instances, there has been mistakes made that have directly and negatively impacted the lives of Americans. An
This organization is a very powerful and recognized thing in today’s world. Some people donate a pint of blood which can save three people’s lives. Clara Barton spent many years helping soldiers heal back to health but the American Red Cross provides healing for everyone in the United States even just by donating something little can save someone’s live or make their day
The third episode of the video series “Rx for Survival,” focused on the hindrances in conveying the 21st century’s global health tools worldwide and was titled “Delivering the Goods.” The episode expressed the difficulty in delivering public health interventions to many of the world’s people; as a large challenge, and declared the fact that 10 million children die yearly from preventable causes “a great paradox of public health” (Rx for Survival, 2005). The video relayed some of the larger obstacles to providing care for the needy as being: geographical, information delivery, and political (Rx for Survival, 2005).
The purpose of this paper is to explore the Red Cross of America. The paper discusses the historical background of the Red Cross along with the current status of the organization. Nevertheless, the study intends to focus on the section 501 (c) (3). The section specifically enlightens the prospects through which the tax exemption may be applied. International Committee of Red Cross (commonly known as Red Cross) was established in 1863 as a non-profit social organization. Red Cross works under the head of The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is the world’s largest humanitarian network. Main objective of the Red Cross is to protect life and health, assuage human suffering, and endorse human dignity. Red
From looking at this contextually, we are able to look at this charity in relation to the ideas of liberation theology. This concept became very popular throughout history, giving a main focus to the actions of Christians in a community to those who are treated wrongly, not however, by a fault of their own but the structural sin of where they
Lesley Boone once said, “We are a country that prides itself on power and wealth, yet there are millions of children who go hungry every day” (Johnson, p.38). When people think of world issues, many do not consider America’s stand point on the ordeal. They are unable to fully comprehend the growing lack of jobs, poverty, hunger, poor health care, and meager education that takes place across the nation. American charity foundations are often eager to jump to the rescue of other countries, but what about the detrimental issues that occur and worsen here every day? In the past, the majority of organizations are predominantly directed at foreign countries; helping places such as Ethiopia, India, Somalia, etc. While here, poverty and debt are increasing by surmountable amounts. Charities for other regions are beneficial, but shouldn’t people here be first priority? Especially considering the majority of our problems have the potential to be easily fixed. Also speculate on what will happen when we have nothing left to give. If the United States does not soon take this into deliberation, it could be hazardous and irreversible to the American society. Charities need to start focusing more on America before it’s too late. When deciding where America’s charitable hands should go, many things need to be taken into consideration such as; charities outside of the U.S.,
As part of a worldwide movement the American Red Cross offers care and hope to victims of war, poverty and natural disasters, and, as such it is with great anticipation that I will undertake the task of researching from various sources, and presenting its history, philosophy, mission, vision and value statement. Among this, I will briefly describe the culture of the organization, noting whether the organization’s espoused values align with its enacted values. I will also address the extent to which organizational culture is determined by communication or lack thereof and the role communication plays in perception and organizational culture. I will also explain how misalignment between espoused values and enacted values affect
The Doctors without Borders organization was founded in 1971 in Paris due to the efforts of French doctors that originally worked for the Red Cross in Biafra during its civil war. The doctors were frustrated by the treatment of the Nigerian Troops’ to aid workers. Thus, upon returning to France, some doctors broke their contracts with the Red Cross and began to provide humanitarian aid not in conjunction with the regulations of the Red Cross. The doctors were firm believers that, “all people should have the right to medical care and that the needs of these people supersede respect for national borders” (MSF, 2001). During the same time period, a group of French journalists were trying to focus the attention of the world to people who were struggling and dying from natural disasters in countries like Iran and Afghanistan. These journalists believed that French doctors should help out with these natural disasters. In conjunction with the journalists, the doctors formed Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Starting from 1971, they have had a huge impact in helping shape history. A major event in the history of Doctors without Borders was helping
The American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization that prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies through six key areas; disaster relief, lifesaving blood, training and certification, supporting America’s military families, and international services. The American Red Cross has both a mission statement, which defines their objectives and approach, and also a vision statement, which defines their vision and future goals. The mission statement of the American Red Cross reads “The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. The American Red Cross’ vision statement reads “The American Red Cross, through its
Human rights violations occur all around the world on a daily basis. Despite the Universal declaration of human rights (UDHR) to safeguard the rights of all human beings, some states are still dragging their feet to implement the basic rights their citizens are entitled to. So, to advocate for people whose rights have been denied, many Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have taken upon themselves to work and promote social and political change. These NGOs play an important part in improving communities, and advocating for citizen participation. In that sense, Doctors without borders, mostly known as Medecins sans Fontieres (MSF), has gained a lot of praise for its work for helping people in need, and acting as an instrument of reducing poverty worldwide.
Imagine an entire community of individuals, from doctors to massage therapists, that does not answer to any political entity or religion, yet still manages to collectively provide free healthcare services to millions of individuals in need every year. Medecins Sans Frontiers, or popularly known in the US as Doctors Without Borders, is an international NGO that does just that. The organization began in 1971 when a group of French doctors and journalists recognized the dire need for assistance in healthcare during times of war, famine, and flood in Nigeria and Pakistan. Since then, it has expanded and provides aid to over 60 countries in underserved regions across Central America, South America, Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia as
