There’s an old documentary about amusement parks called America Screams which aired on PBS in 1978. It was an hour long, but was later whittled down to a half hour when it was released on VHS. This edited version can be seen on YouTube. (The Lagoon sequence starts at the 7:30 mark). It’s a rare glimpse at amusement parks and roller coasters at a time when both were experiencing a major resurgence in popularity. On top of that, it’s narrated by the legendary Vincent Price! The documentary came about when an author and a filmmaker decided to do something that had never been done before. Here’s what the filmmaker, Scott Campbell, told me about how it began and why Lagoon was chosen to be a part of it. “My partner and good friend, Gary Kyriazi, had written a book, The …show more content…
This first clip begins out front at the old Auto Gate when it was located near the west end of Roller Coaster. Also shown are views from the Sky Ride including a great shot of the old Wild Mouse. It ends with scenes of Pioneer Village which were cut for the VHS version. It’s easy to see why Pioneer Village was once called a “living museum” with employees roaming the dirt paths and boardwalks in period clothing. The original broadcast version also includes another treat. This nighttime sequence is a blend of shots from Lagoon and Lakeside Park in Denver set to the ’60s hit song Palisades Park by Freddy Cannon. Most of the closeups of signage are from Lakeside. I’ve marked the shots that I can confirm are from Lagoon in the clip. The Roll-O-Plane and possibly the Skee-Ball game could be from Lagoon as well. Campbell said Lagoon was a “wonderful, friendly park” and shared more about the adventure he and Kyriazi had making America Screams. “Price was a joy to work with…and he loved the parks and ‘rolly’
Obesity, heart disease and diabetes are all serious conditions that are caused by an increased intake of sugar. In the documentary Sugar Coated, it mentions Japan and how over there, they are taking drastic measures to ensure that their nation does not have to be burdened by the diseases sugar can lead to. Before Japan was introduced to a high sugar diet, they were much healthier than Americans. Now, Japan has to combat many years of high sugar diets that is newly occurring and could potentially ruin their economy due to sugar intake. Although one may think they have a well balanced diet, there are many ways that sugar can be disguised by wording through seemingly healthy food items, such as granola bars, fruit juices and yogurts. Another problem

Can Mr. Smith get to Washington Anymore and Street Fight are both documentary movies about the road to obtaining a public office position. Can Mr. Smith get to Washington Anymore focuses on the path of a non-government official making his way through the campaign process to control a Missouri Senate seat. Street Fight focuses on a current City Council member running for Mayor in a small town known as Newark. Both documentaries walk audiences through the struggles and the obstacles politicians face when trying to out compete their opponent.
A violent contract killer, a blue-collar welder, and a weary sheriff are all players in the ensemble No Country for Old Men. The Coen Brothers adaptation of the novel written by Cormac McCarthy is a multi-genre, visual buffet about a man’s strength of will and dedication. It’s about death, fate and American violence. It is set in 1980 and centers around the chaos of questionable decision making and killing without a purpose or at the very least killing without ethics. Every Coen Brother movie has utilized violence as a way to enhance realism, entertainment and narrative. Each of their films employ bloodshed in

After watching 13th it didn't make me upset at all, it made me very sorrowful, to see some of the things that African Americans had to go through. I wonder how it would feel to be kidnapped and brought to another country, to be enslaved and then freed to only be, enslaved in a different way. Know that I have watched this documentary it oped my eyes on why things are how they are know. Everything that they said in the documentary was linked together one way or another, it’s like putting together a puzzle with a lot of pieces. One thing that really stuck with me from the documentary was when they were saying that, a lot of the african american leaders around the 1960 were either killed, imprisoned or fled the country and that's why there is not a lot of African American civil right leaders, because maybe people seen what happened to the civil right activist and didn't want the same thing to happen to them. After all I don’t blame them I would want to play it safe to. On the other hand I don’t feel
The documentary, The Good Fight, captures the many struggles and sacrifices James Farmer faced during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. Through first hand accounts, pictures, and documents, this film brings James Farmer to life portraying him as a selfless, committed, and collaborative leader dedicated to the movement. James Farmer experienced segregation from a young age and knew at that point that he must actively do something to put an end to it. He strongly believed in changing something that is wrong rather than just passively accommodating to the world.
Thesis: College athletes should not get paid due to the financial restrictions of the NCAA, the imbalance of competition, and the fact that these young adults are students.
Why We Fight released to the viewing public in 2005. One of several documentaries by director Eugene Jarecki. Narrator Walter Huston did not uniquely stand out from the cast yet held a neutral position. Music selection on the other hand, stood out boldly from the plot. As the issues of war and freedom intensified so did the music. If people mourned the deaths of others soft spoken emotional music evoked feeling. The film adds to the propaganda exampled by the subject matter. Fluency of the film immediately stood out to me. Jarecki’s attention to detail, diverse mediums, and personal opinion as well as entertainment of the viewer were well taken care of in this film with the exception of fluency. The film’s purpose is to question the viewer about the preemptive community of the American
Hungry for Change is a thought provoking documentary produced by James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch that delves into the implications of eating a modern diet. Using pathos, facts and figures, and association, Hungry for Change delivers a meritorious performance that engages viewers and leaves them questioning their own diet and lifestyle choices. The film’s use of rhetorical and advertising strategies and its ability to captivate viewers make this an effective, life changing documentary.
Lots of music, fast cuts, fantastic cinematography and superb sets and costumes make it the lively tale it was meant to be. These features also make the film somewhat cartoon-like with a lot of heightened realism. Don't expect to see British people prancing around in tights when you rent this one. Luhrmann creates a world where gun-toting youths sport Hawaiian shirts and beachfront brawls are an everyday event.
Steinbeck begins the paragraph with a short, direct clause to highlight that Cathy’s desire for money is her main motivation. Steinbeck characterizes Cathy as a sinister woman by using “pulp,” a word with a negative connotation. “Pulp” also characterizes Mr. Edwards as a weakling compared to the monstrous Cathy. Not only does the word leave a negative impression on Cathy, but also on Edward. Cathy starts to steal from Mr. Edwards. However, Cathy also starts to steal his heart and conclusively exploits him. Steinbeck’s word choice also characterizes Cathy as a persistent individual, doing all she can to succeed in her plans. Steinbeck uses word choice with Cathy’s name: similar to Cain, Cathy also starts with a “C”, suggesting that Cathy also
As a child, these monsters of fun always intrigued me, but I was required to travel more than 2,000 miles in order to ride one. I used to question why the state of Hawaii didn’t have just one amusement park on any of its eight islands. It’s actually pretty ironic how we have several water parks in our state, though we are fully surrounded by the refreshing H2O or zero boardwalks in an area with an abundance of beaches.
The cause of the collapse of Western Roman Empire can be explained through various reasons. One influence that caused the Roman Empire to collapse is the Internal divisions of Rome. Between 316 and the end of 476 AD, the western Empire had experienced more than six major civil wars. Emperors were constantly murdered while the generals were carrying out wars against one another. Inevitably, all the wars and conflicts that were caused within Rome itself had drained the last economic resources of what they have had.
I would like to say that my favorite amusement park is LEGOLAND, where kids can be kids and be creative. Kids have fun even when it is raining, it has been said that at Legoland Florida there is never a day without rain. My family and I did enjoy our stay when we visited, there were many of indoor activities that the children took part on, the indoor playground, indoor theatre and so on. Beautiful structures build with Lego blocks, there were so many beautiful well put together Lego design: the popular cities like New York, Chicago, Miami, Orlando. There were ford explorer SUV with every block carefully put together, if standing at a distance it would appear to look like a real vehicle. Third is you meet and interact with people all around the world and since it’s a day of fun in the sun or rain, every family make the best of it.
