5-htp also called 5-hydroxytryptophan is a natural substance obtained from seeds pod of an African medicinal plant called Griffonia simplicifolia. In Humans, it converts directly into serotonin which is responsible for a lot of body functions i.e. memory, learning, sleeping, mood, regulation of temperature, cardiovascular functions, sexual behaviour, endocrine regulation, muscle contraction and temperature regulation among others.
