Does God Care About Me?

“The average man does not want to be free. He simply wants to be safe.” by H.L. Mencken. I do agree with what H.L. Mencken is saying that an average man does want to be safe but I would also have to disagree. People need to feel as if they are free at a certain extent. Countries tend to have cults and gang related violence. This is probably how dictatorship had come about and how other people would argue that as Americans , we don’t care much for our freedom.

On the contrary, one can argue that the individuals within free countries are completely free with the exception of law in order to maintain peace, yet the individuals are the opposite. He simply wants to be safe.” To be free is to have the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without restraint. This type of freedom can be offered in many places whether it be home, school, or work. Safety is the condition of being protected from or unlikely to because risk, danger, or injury. Safety should be seen as an advantage to have because it’s never truly guaranteed. Most people claim they are proud of the freedoms their nations offer, though many people manifest the willingness to give up these freedoms to secure personal safety.

In order to live you must have two necessities; freedom and safety. I believe neither is more important than one another because being free gives you the opportunity to a safe nation, and a safe nation allows you to be free. You cannot live a life without exploring and growing because that would not be considered living. On the other hand, you cannot expect to be free without safety around you.

Undoubtedly, everyone craves a sense of freedom, but when given too much of it, freedom corrupts the mind. It corrupts the mind into thinking that whatever that person does, whether it involve them self or others, will go unchecked. There is humanly no possible way to merely or easily define what “freedom” truthfully is, as every distinct person and each social order has opposing restrictions for what this belief is. Bureaucrats and social researchers, for example, have vastly diverse philosophies of what institutes freedom. This primeval belief has been ingrained into mankind since the beginning of time. Century after century mankind has fought in numerous wars for this concept of “Freedom”.

Being free is a sense of when nothing in the world can define you except for yourself. Your choices and beliefs are shaped by your own interpretations of what you perceive or think. Referring to the book, it states, “To be free, a man must be free of his brothers” (Rand 101). When Equality 7-2521 lived in the city, he wasn’t allowed to speculate his own thoughts and keep information to himself. However, in the Uncharted Forest, he realized he was allowed to do anything he wanted. Therefore, what you want to be or do should be based on your own feelings, nobody else’s. People don’t have a right to make you feel ashamed of your dissimilarities

This is supposed to be America, the home of the brave and the land of the free but what does it actually mean to be free. To me, being free is the freedom to make my own decisions. I decide what I want to believe in. I decide if I want to risk my life by not wearing a seatbelt. I decide if I want to ruin my health by smoking cigarettes. I decide who I want to have sex with and how I will pay for it. I decide if I want my kids to sit in the front seat of my car or in the back end of my pickup truck. and I decide if I want to get drunk or stoned.

We have rights as individuals and laws to follow to keep peace. Power, however, still drives individuals daily. Everyone loves the sense of power to feel belonging and in charge. The power gives an initial push that can lead to a good result or an avalanche of negatives. The power behind religion fights numerous new laws.

What is Freedom; does it really mean to be “free?” According to several dictionaries, freedom is described as being free of confinement or physical restraint. The United States of America is one of the freest countries in the world. Freedom isn’t just prone, though. Millions fought and perished for our rights and delivered us the freedom that citizens of the United States possess now. It is truly sublime to have these rights, is it not? Having human rights that enable us to do whatever we prefer is enlightening, yes? Ah, but is that what we actually maintain? We accomplished the aspect of freedom, but we are never really “free” until everyone is on the identical page.

A Sociologist would say that if we do not have to confirm with one aspect of religion and how one shall live. We have the right to choose. However, you get what you put out. Your higher power will be who you choose, but Gods plan for cultivating and caring for creation and our fellow neighbor should be what all people should feel and want to do. Some form of that has been lost in our society. We have fallen into a world of I and not us, we have lost the path that was in the divine plan for each and every one of us. We abuse each other verbally, physically, we neglect those who have less and outcast them from our society, we ignore calls and signs for help. We fall prey to misguidance, yet we look for a higher God after the fact. I would say

Although there are numerous definitions as to what freedom mean based upon individual perspectives. Freedom can be defined as _________________ People might be limited by some constraint so freewill may not be completely "free" but the thoughts about possibilities are unlimited and the way in which people get involved in such possibilities is not an aspect that can limit freewill. In Sartre essay titled Existentialism and Human emotion, he points out that from the moment we are brought into this world, we take on the role of responsibility for all of our actions. It makes me think about what the term “free” truly refers when people use it. There aren’t any external benefits that humans can base the way we live. Regardless of whether someone gives you a choice or not, you still have the ability to choose. That is the one and only innate ability any one person possesses. Sartre says, we must be accountable for our actions because it’s ours and no one else’s. I doubt that God would want us to choose to take responsibility over one action over another because we think it’s in our nature to do so. If life was all about handing over our responsibilities to God or to another, wouldn’t you think we would be a less motivated society, without intentions to

However there are always consequences amongst every action. However, this feeling of euphoria is not meant to last. In most cases society may realize that freedom is something that is not really obtained. A feeling of freedom is having that idea of “I am free to do what I want”.

Freedom has a large range of meaning. The encyclopedia Britannica defines freedom as “the quality or state of being free, and the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action” (Britannica). In the American society there is a lot of emphasis on freedom, and the right to be free, but one must question to what extent we are truly “free”.
