The Broadway musical Bye Bye Birdie premiered in 1960 and continues to enjoy popularity among various audiences. Written and composed by Lee Adams and Charles Strouse, the musical fictionalizes the real-life induction of rock-and-roll idol Elvis Presley through the character of Conrad Birdie into the United States Army. One important element of the musical’s plot is the excitement of a group of teenagers in a small Ohio town when they learn of the arrival of a rock star and the prospect of one lucky girl getting a final good-bye kiss. The version of Bye Bye Birdie that was reviewed for this analysis was an August 2017 stage production by Gulfport Little Theatre. Like the original production of the musical, the Gulfport Little Theater production stayed truthful to biographical details of Elvis’s life and all actors were highly professional in their representation of individual characters; however, unlike the original production, the set was reduced to an absolute minimum which was clearly noticeable to the audience.

Integrity. To me, integrity is being honest to others and to yourself. It’s to have moral uprights. It’s the state of being whole. It’s a word used to describe someone’s level of honesty. According to www.apa.org, American teens say they experience stress in patterns similar to adults, and during the school year they report having even higher stress levels than reported by adults! Even in summer teens are under a lot of stress! According to www.juniorachievement.org, sixty-three percent of teens have seasonal jobs! That can amount to a lot of stress for a teenager! There is a quote by Zig Ziglar that states: "Money won't make you happy, but everybody wants to find out for themselves." This, I believe, is very true. We have all heard the people who have said that spending money helps relieve their sress. Could this be the hope that today's teens are clinging to when the refuse profoundly to keeping a budget? Integrity is how somebody lives their life. In this life we live, we face choices every day that only we can answer. We dictate how we run our own lives, and they way we run them defines us. Integrity is doing the right thing versus the wrong thing. People, if nothing else, can always have their pride, their integrity. It is something that means a lot to some people and then nothing to others. The ones who value their integrity highly are the good people in this world, and the opposite is true for those who do not value their integrity.
