The Mass Media is an important feature of modern society; its development has undoubtedly been a core factor to rapid social and technological change and also to the rise in personal income and standard of life as well as the decline of some social traditions. The school proposed the hypodermic model of effects. This envisaged the media as a hypodermic syringe that injected the audience with its contents like a drug making them acceptable to the attitudes, opinions and beliefs expressed by the medium about the decisions that they make.
‘The image of mass communication process entertained by researchers had been, firstly, one of “an atomistic mass” of millions of readers, listeners and movie goers, prepared to receive the message; and secondly…every message [was conceived of] as a direct and powerful stimulus to action which would elicit immediate response.’- Katz and Lazarsfeld (1955)
The Inoculation Model
Another theory similar to the last is the Inoculation model, a long term model that is based upon the idea that if we are continuously exposed to certain images, we then become immune to them. This was an argument used in the Jamie Bulger case in which two teenage boys were said to have been obsessed with and therefore influenced by the film Child’s Play 3 and thus drove them to carry out a horrific crime on the toddler.
Television violence has been a hot topic in recent years especially the effects it has on young people. As a result there are censorship guidelines notably in the aim not to influence the minds of the young. For example, in America certain sketches of the animated comedy The Simpsons are censored. Today’s media (news) plays an enormous role in the lives of people in directing a specific perception of the world around them. Most often media conduct's a subconscious effect upon its spectators in which the upshots are deliberately or illdeliberatly towards a particular topic.

The mass media has become a big part of our society and its counterparts. In a time span of 50 years this medium has influenced society to an extent where it has created wonders. This immaculate tool can control almost every action we perform, from speaking to the actions that every human being performs in society. The mass media has brought upon a new era of idea's and changes in the world we live in. As we analysis media in depth we will find many aspects of media which overlap and some of the smallest factors and aspects of media, which create the biggest impact on society.
Mass media is communication that reaches a large audience. This includes television, advertisement, the Internet, newspapers, and so on. Mass media, simply put, is just another form of communication. We see it as ads, newspapers, the internet, and over the radio. It reaches large audiences around the world, and plays a significant role in modernization, especially in America.
It is not entirely clear whether the audience is rather passive by simply consuming the meaning produced by the media industry or co-creates it. Nonetheless, one should not underestimate the influence of the media.
Throughout the years, popular culture has grown into an intellectually battle. Steven Johnson affirms that “the popuIar media steadily, but almost imperceptibly”, made “our minds sharper”. Johnson can be looked as an ideal example of the good impact the media has on its people. He doesn’t judge the negative advertisement, the numerous crimes presented on a daily basis or the violent television dramas but he explains how these are just a shell, a mantle and underneath it reveals a machinery meant to challenge and develop people’s mind.
While much of the American public is aware of the media's influential power over our society, many believe they are immune to these influences and therefore underestimate the actual effects it can have within our lives. Parenti believes media can even influences these "immune" Americans through the ideal of political entertainment. This ideal embodies a media with subtle hints of various political, cultural and systematic views that are embedded with in a program's or movie's characters, contents or plots. While this influence may be indirect, much of it goes undetected by the wary public who claim immunity from such media. Furthermore, Parenti argues that such critiques of influential media by the wary public are biased in themselves, stating that, "this editing is itself partly conditioned by the previously internalized images fed to audiences by the same media they are now viewing." Ultimately things ranging from style and social status, to love and relationships and even to our perception of foreign culture is all influenced by media and its conglomerates. They are the ultimate

In today’s technology-based society, there arises a question. How much do the everyday things that we do affect us. If we were to take an inventory of how much media we let ourselves be influenced by every day, we would be shocked. When you read a book, watch television, or look at a magazine, you are opening your mind to the opinions represented. However, it is not the obvious messages that are the most dangerous. The scariest opinions are the ones that are hidden in subtle messages that maybe only the subconscious picks up on. There are many ways that a person can be influenced to change their ideas, thoughts, and even personal beliefs. In the article “Media's Use of Propaganda to Persuade People's Attitude, Beliefs
The media, a powerful source of information but what are the affects? While the media is seen by many as a vital source of information offered through a variety of different outlets, the theoretical underlining affects of the media demonstrates how stories from within it can influence society. The imprtance of not only recongnizing but understanding the media’s affects remains a vital priority in all forms of information today in how it is received and interpretated by different audiences. The level of effect of the media however, has been disputed heavingly, as with different forms of media such as online have developed a different affect for the mass media consumer. When regarding the level of effect the media holds, the 2016 Presidential campaign presents a prominent case study that shows a limiting affect of the mass media that
During the early 1900’s audiences were considered to be passive, an audience that merely observed events rather than actively responding to the event in the media. During this time, several theories were developed on the media’s ability to provide information to a group of people that did not think about the information just simply receive the information. Assessment of Debates on Media Effects A long history lies behind question about how communication affects or influences people. Greeks developed sophisticated hypothesis about how to impress listeners through the spoken word and Aristotle was concerned with theorizing the art of speaking. Even nowadays in face-to-face conversations each of us mobilizes theories about how to influence our listeners. For instance, we wish to make others understand how we feel or what we think.
Mass media is a media intended for a large audience. It may take the form of broadcast media, as in the case of television and radio, or print media, like newspapers and magazines. Internet media can also attain mass media status, and many media outlets maintain a web presence to take advantage of the ready availability of Internet in many regions of the world. Some people also refer to it as the “mainstream media,” referencing the fact that it tends to stick to prominent stories which will be of interest to a general audience, sometimes ignoring controversial breaking news. Many people around the world rely on this form of media for news and entertainment, and globally, it is a huge industry.
