Illegal immigration is a “hot” topic in our country. There is controversy between the state and federal governments over who has authority, and our elected officials in Washington are addressing the issue, with limited success. The majority of us have some opinion on the subject, and our opinions tend to be based on how the issue will impact us. We question if illegal immigration is good for us. What are the costs to us? Is it in the best interest of our country? As nearly twelve million people have secretly slipped across the border to invade our space, our concerns have increased. While our concerns are important, we should not limit ourselves to a one-sided view. Only by understanding both sides of the issue, will we be inspired
What would you think if the word “Fence” came to your mind? Probably just the normal fence that goes around your backyard, right? Well, this word has a much deeper meaning to it. Back in the mid 1950’s , racial segregation was a “big thing”. All colored people had to obey the white people, even under harsh circumstances. Moreover, lots of privileges were taken away from black people such as not being able to vote, dirty water, and different schools. Now you might be wondering, what has changed during all this time? Surprisingly it all started with a tiny little act, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white person.
Into the Wild written by Jon Krakauer illustrates the life and death of Christopher McCandless, and his search for the true meaning in life. McCandless’ family was well-off and he graduated from Emory University with honors. Everything in McCandless’ life came easy, and because of this he wished to find what it meant to work for something. Through his perilous journey across the United States, McCandless found a way to inspire others everywhere he went. His independent and carefree mindset inspired other adventure seekers. Because McCandless desired to push the status-quo, he trades material wealth in order to find the richness in life.
A potential subject for an essay reflecting the second prompt would be a place of importance such as Munds Park Arizona. A photo would be provided showing family playing a competitive game of corn hole with the beautiful pine trees in the background. Despite the beautiful scenery, Munds Park is a place of importance due to the family aspect that is enforced when an individual is around there. At the family cabin, an individual not only can relax the entire day if desired, but they could as well go outside and enjoy the perfect weather and views. Other activities include going on a family hike even including the dogs or taking the ATV out into the woods for a ride. Nighttime activities such as making s’mores, playing board games, or watching
Kristoff uses many rhetorical devices to make points in his piece, “Our Blind Spot About Guns”. He compares the safety of guns to cars and tries to make a point that we should regulate them in the same way. One rhetorical device Kristoff used is visual persuasion. By showing a picture of a sign stating that guns were prohibited in Dodge City, a symbol of the Wild West, he used this visual to show the reader that gun prohibition has already been established throughout history. Visual persuasion is often used to convince the reader that the statements that are being forth are superior to the opposing side. It shows visual proof and is intended to make a point and persuade the reader to agree with the statement. Another rhetorical device that was used in the piece was a paradox. The author used this device when he said, “It’s pointless because even if you regulate cars, then people will just run each other down with bicycles,” (“Our Blind Spot About Guns” pg. 161) This statement is
The Cleveland Indians faced pressure in Canada to get rid of there name and mascot, including a court challenge. Douglas Cardinal has filed a complaint to the Ontario Superior court to prevent the Cleveland Indians from wearing their regular jerseys, using their team name and displaying their logo, while playing in Toronto. He is an architect and officer of the order of Canada. He also filled complaints with the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Canadian Human Rights Commission. His argument is that the Cleveland Indians' team name and mascot are offensive and discriminatory to native people. There mascot is a cartoon man with red skin and a feather in his head band. Many people refer to the mascot as Chief Wahoo.
On 10.20.17 at approximately 6:00pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian with Franklin County Animal Care and Control (FCACC) was patrolling the 1200 block of N 6th Ave, when I saw a pit bull (White/Brown) loose in the area. I exited my vehicle and approached the pit bull, the pit bull came to me without any issues, I placed a leash on the pit bull. A unknown African American male advised me that the pit bull resided at 1273 N. 6th St. I walked to the house and knocked on the door. A unknown African American female answered. I asked her if the pit bull resided at the location she stated it did. I asked her if the pit bull name Diamond was current on dog license and vaccinations the unknown African American female did not know that is when she
People judge others through stereotypical analysis, where untrue, negative thoughts about a person are based on precedent assumptions. The Youngers’ faced these issues when trying to move into a predominantly white neighborhood called Clybourne Park. The family was alienated by the neighborhood in multiple ways. In one particular way, the community board thought that the Youngers’ would make the predominately white, upper-middle-class neighborhood unclean because of them being the only black family to move into the neighborhood. There were times when the Younger family received unwelcoming looks and unfriendly responses from their neighbors. These types of accusations were morally wrong but not unusual for this era. To properly get an analysis
The Yankee’s claim was an Abuse of a Slippery Slope Argument because between the two notions of the boy being innocent and the building falling down, the former can be backed up by evidence and is far more plausible than the latter based purely off of supposition. What he should’ve done was say that if if his only evidence for supposing the defendant was not guilty was because it was possible, then his argument would not be very strong.
Right now women are fighting for the right to be treated as equals to men; to not be seen as objects or weak. Similarly, the colonists fought against Britain to be seen as being capable of being an independent country. Ironically, Kelly stands for women’s rights but believes that blacks do not deserve equal treatment than white people. Furthermore, the colonists fought for their freedom yet suppress blacks as slaves, who deserve the same right to freedom. Therefore the purpose that West has in mind is mocking and scorning Megyn Kelly, and conservative women for their views on equality and rights.
One of the most concerning aspects of my essay is the fact that I included too much summary and not enough analysis to explain to the readers the purpose of Party City’s ad. I need to elaborate on my points and explain them precisely and specifically. I also need to add more words to my essay which can be done through the addition of more analysis as well as the inclusion of connecting logic. By adding better connecting logic, I can explain the effect that the visual elements have and why I say that they have that effect. One way I can incorporate my connecting logic in each body paragraph is by having one sentence that connects to my claim and another to the thesis of my essay. The image of the Party City ad that I added in my paper needs
The immigration debate could easily be one of the most controversial and long-lasting debates this country has ever seen. Immigration, after all, is the soil in which American has grown its roots. The immigration debate comes with many positive and negative effects, and choosing a side is not as easy as choosing “heads” or “tails.” Those who believe in a closed border would argue the negative effects illegal immigrants have on the economy and safety of America. However, the opposite point of view believes that those same effects are positive. If you do years of research and analysis and are still unsure of which side to choose, you are not alone, and you are not wrong. So which side do you choose? It’s a delicate subject and the
