Dog vs Pig as a Pet
Choosing a pet should never be a snap decision; as one of the airmen from my old squadron learned after he bought a potbellied pig. The airmen come into the section with a bandage across his nose and bruising below his eyes. When I asked him what happened, he proceeded to tell me about his morning. His pig was an incredibly busy little pig during the night; he piled the area rugs from the house into the hallway, which had been laid out to prevent the pig from sliding on the laminate floor. The next morning the pig stood by his dish and squealed like he was in trouble or dying. The airmen came running down the hallway in a half asleep daze, tripping over the pile of area rugs landing on his face. The airmen said the pig stopped squealing and walked up to him and sat down; as if to say “I’m hungry!” The airmen said he looked at the pig and said “Why did I pay $2300 for you; all you are is a miserable little turd. I think, I should have stuck with a dog.” Both dogs and pigs can make a great pet, but the proper selection rests on the owner’s lifestyle, finances, and living arrangements.
Dogs can make a minimal impact on an owner’s lifestyle, once trained, they can be very obedient and shows unconditional love for their owners, such as greeting them at the door. Most can be left for the day without worry as to what they are going to do while the owners are gone. Then, if a person travels and can’t take the dog, they can be boarded at a kennel for a week or
